Hey everyone, as the title states, I’m seeking an artist collaborator with a unique style and this is a paid collaboration. Let’s get to the details!

I am a writer/artist currently making my own webcomic Beast Bait31 with a good reader base. However, my own artistic style is still developing and although I’m very happy with my scripts, the artistic part of it is still very much not to everyone’s taste, I’m not gonna lie.

Now I’ve written a brand new project and I can just tell that a) this script has the potential to become an epic fantasy masterpiece and b) it is WAY beyond my own abilities to draw and do this script justice.

The concept and script are very unique, but if I had to make stylistic comparisons I would say it is along the lines of Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke, or Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples’ Saga, or even Gaiman’s Sandman. I’m not trying to say this script is as good as any of those things, but if I find the right collaborator who can truly bring passion and their own imagination to the project, it could stand up at least on the shelf below them.

I am NOT looking for “generic comic art”. I’m basically looking for someone who is unique and has an affinity for a painterly style, can do clean lineart, and is willing to be passionate about the idea and a true collaborator. In exchange, I am happy to pay you good money.

The scope of the work would be to do concept art for locations and characters, as well as the cover and first 10 pages of the first chapter. (The full story is to be six chapters long, each chapter 24 pages).

I would then want to send that to publishers. While that is happening, I would then commission the remaining 14 pages of the first chapter in case publishers reject and use that first full chapter to run a Kickstarter for publication. Although I would not contract at that point, I would want you to be open to the idea of sticking with the project until after KS backing for the remaining five chapters.

So what are the next steps? If you want to be considered, please send me a link to your work and your page rate (feel free to PM). If I like your work, I would then send you my pitch/synopsis. If you don’t like it, let me know—no harm no foul! But if you DO like it and feel like it’s something you could make great and be passionate about, let me know and I would then send you the completed first chapter script before you make your final decision.

Hope to find an awesome collaborator on here!

Important note: For artistic style, I'm not looking for "gritty", I'm looking for pretty. Please let me see samples accordingly. Thanks!

Hey!

Sounds definitely something that could be very interesting. I happened to read this on the most perfect time as well. I've just finished my personal comic project Sandbox Drama20 and I'm wondering what should be my next project.

Don't stop looking at that, I have also made a guest comic for Albert the Alien which will be published in July link to the wip video can be seen here in my tumblr9. You can see my process there as well.

And here's more dragons, a comic10 I made to participate to a comic contest on a browser based game.

Please PM me if you're interested and we can talk more.

I just wanted to chime in to say that this is a very legitimate opportunity. @dglisson's script for the first issue of this comic is brilliant, reminiscent of some of the inventive fantasy of Neil Gaiman. He's also a great guy, very professional, very reliable and very driven. I know that collaborations are things that some folks here are wary about, but as someone who only works on collaborations, I wanted to say that I definitely feel that this is a project worth applying for if you're an artist looking for good, paying work. : )

This sounds like an amazing opportunity, and I hope it goes well.
Personally, as an artist and writer Ghibli, Saga and Remender and Greg Tocchini ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_(comics)3 ) are pretty big inspirations to me, for many reasons. I could talk about them for days! (My WIP project, not yet on tap is definitely inspired by all 3 things.)

While I don't personally feel I can reach the level your looking for. I would not mind hearing more about the story and doing a sample page?

Hey Elm! I checked out your series you have on this site and I'm intrigued, but would love to see more samples from you for different styles, do you have a link to any more samples of your work?

I'm a freelance comic artist. I'm currently working on Whetstone8 but I am looking for an additional project to work on. My work is traditionally done on paper with markers but I do the text digitally. For more of my art you can visit my Deviant Art3. PM me for more details. wink
