This could be considered quite a deep question or one that deserves no reply but here goes....

How sensitive do you feel your readers or?
I'm thinking about having one of my characters suffer from a hearing loss. Yeah, that might seem a dumb idea when you look at my strip but you see.... my strip is almost semi-autobiographical in places.
I'm mostly deaf and would like to share some of my experiences with readers but in a humorous way. Do you suppose I would offend people, turn people away and generally alienate folk?
Would I need to spell out my semi-autobiographical nature of the strip in order to convey no hidden messages of 'unpleasantness'.
Do you think it's a bad idea to approach such topics in a humour strip?
My character could indeed be laughed by other protagonists in the strip but I'd hate to have a response from readers such as "That's cruel". If such an character was laughed at, it would be down to the fact that that is how I personally have felt over time.

Any thoughts?

I think that could be an interesting aspect of your character to explore. My vote is to go with it, especially if it fits and feels right for the story. It's only going to seem off if it's forced in. Staying true to you and your story is always the best thing you can do for your readers/fans.

I don't see why it would be a bad idea. It's not like you plan on trashing deaf people, especially since you have gone through it first hand.

The only problem I can see is if you try to shoehorn it into the story, but from the way you speak it seems that you already have a plan.

I think these things are only offensive if you are presenting a sensitive issue that you have no idea about and did not care to research. Since these are your personal experiences, I say go for it, and express yourself however you wish. In terms of wanting to convey the proper feeling to readers, you can always have a friend look at it and see if it comes off as how you wish (funny, sad, cruel, etc).

I dunno, it doesn't sound like a bad idea. Actually it can turn out to be a very intriguing comic if you play it off right. Sometimes things that happen in my comics are reflections of problems in my life and through my comics I learn how to cope with those things and hopefully others find inspiration through it. I'd imagine most readers are pretty open to anything, and if they don't like it, well nothing's lost.

I honestly think this would be amazing and very interesting

No such thing as bad ideas in comics. Good or bad is all up to interpretation in the end. You'll always have an audience for something, as a creator you just need to be brave enough to put it out there and see where it goes from there.
