I've just updated my webpage for Ghost Reaper, and it's become necessary to include a content advisory due to the dark nature of the books' subject matter. It includes such highlights as:

  • Alcoholism
  • Gay Tweens
  • Gender Ambiguity
  • History Erasure
  • Mall Dolphins

If your series had or has a content advisory, what would it look like? What innocuous thing do you think would offend people, or how is it deeper than you yourself give it credit for?

way more as I keep going along.

Hmm... I'm not actually sure what I'll be including in the content advisory for my web novel. I've been trying to figure that out. It looks like authors on Tapas here tend to include warnings for anything, to cover all possibilities so that anyone who does happen to get offended about something, even if it's not necessarily dark, knows to opt out before they even start. For example,

I would think that doesn't actually need a warning, but those who get offended by LGBTQ will at least know to back out before they start, and they won't be compelled to leave a comment about "wasting time before finding out there's LGBTQ stuff". That way, it cuts down on the drama for both the writer, and the potential readers. Is that right?

I tend to like broader warnings for my own stories, like "Various forms of abuse" as opposed to specifics, but it sounds like on Tapas I should be much more specific.

:joy: I like that one!
