Realizing I'm in my burnout era again (let's be real never left but it's back to being hard to manage) so I'm looking to fan the flames by getting back in touch with things that inspire me and maybe check out some new stuff while I'm at it

So whether it's other artists, music, tv shows, movies whatever drop it

Looking at a Will Eisner page always inspires me

And I recommend to check out the 1950s era.
Cars, posters, advertisement, machines, designs, everything from the era looked stylish and beautifully designed.
Even household stuff like toasters and fridges looked amazing.
I watched a lot of 1950s movies with my ex girlfriend and she always said "I would be happy with the most ugly
car in that movie" and she was right, the most ugly car in the movie still looked better than any modern car

@XiuLyn_12 i remember that mangaka! i never read their work but i recognize the boys from my "anime dude" searches years ago =<=;; but thank you! (´◡`)

@Lensing it's not quite my taste but i can respect their use of negative space and strong shadows personally i lean towards whatever aesthetic they had going in the fifth element since i remember my dad's old sketchbooks having stuff reminiscent to it or those wedge hatchbacks from the 80s and early 90s

@Kelheor thank you~ also i was literally looking for this twitter artist recently after seeing that exact illustration so the coincidence is wild!

This might inspire you to keep going(warning, ai art mentions incoming):
My cousin goes to middle school, and at their school, they do a class there where one of the major projects was to "design" a digital escape room.
After the project was over, I got a text from them asking about if it was legal to create AI art. I was very confused about how they even knew what AI art even was or why they were asking in the first place.
After talking with them over a call for about half an hour, I was told the whole story. The teacher of the class my cousin was taking told the students to all create "visuals" to make their escape rooms look more interesting.
The teacher (an art teacher, mind you), gave all the students sketchy websites that generates AI art off of prompts and told all of them to generate AI art for the escape rooms.
At this point in the story, I was like "whaaaaat????", but that's not all to it, trust me.
The ART teacher goes on with a lecture to all the students about how fascinating AI are and how everyone should love the concept of generating AI art.
Man, I don't know if that teacher's got iron guts or something, but it seems like he's completely oblivious to the fact that all those pieces of AI art were created by years of human artists' sweat and tears.
So yeah, I think this was something that motivated me to improve myself. I was like: hey, if AI is getting better and the standards for art are getting higher, I should get better as well.
I don't know if other people find this story highly disturbing though

hell of an approach from a teacher but if anything it makes me feel bad for the kids because there was a perfect opportunity to get them thinking about stuff they find scary or that they think would go in a puzzle room and have them try to sketch it out putting less focus on quality of output or whatever benefit they thing the ai would have but really inspire the kids creativity in themselves ;v;)

i suppose in a weird way it is motivating(?) but also makes me hope those kids can explore outside of that persons...unique teaching methods

I agree. I don't know what the heck the teacher was trying to express, but my cousin even said that they were just glad they contacted me, someone who knew what was going on with AI art before they went and boasted to their friends about the whole thing (they're wholesome as hell ). Anyways, hope you get through your burnout soon. Best of lucky to you :]

I think the thing that got me interested in making comics were these little self-insert comics that Akira Toriyama did. I am not sure why THIS was what inspired me and not DBZ. I guess I liked the silly nature of them.

I also really love Hugo Pratt's art. It's very simple yet detailed. I really love this image of Corto Maltese chilling on the beach.

Old cartoon characters like Kim possible, Danny Phantom, some anime like Tyra the tyrant, Avatar the legend of Korra, and ofc Avatar the last airbender.

@TheLemmaLlama oh, I am not a gamer at all, the only stuff I know is my SO made me play some of HoMM a bit and well, that's too old school for me and I am most definitely not a fan of TBS games xD the music is great thought and so many awesome covers indeed! There was Paul Romero's HoMM live concert last year I think, unfortunately I couldn't go, but I would absolutely love to.

@NickRowler honestly omake style comics like this also wound up being one of those things to inspire me coz i always was amused by the balance of serious story and then silly and maybe sometimes ooc side comics and that illustration is really nice makes me want to visit the beach again

@Katzalcoatl old cartoons have definitely got a hold on me (always tempted to do a rewatch xD) but edgerunner sound familiar i'll have to look it up

@Aeneas1 i always remember having to read shakespeare in school tho there was also a book of collected works we have at home that i'd thumb thru when curiosity struck and even tho i never read the narnia books i remember how mesmerized i was by one of the movies that had aired on tv once

Bugs, my friends, my city, rivers, trees, buildings - god i love architecture so much - my cats, my houseplants, the sky. I know I sound like a hippie and yes I do get inspired by media too, but I think it's good to highlight other means of inspiration that also encourage healthy stuff like going outside and talking to your loved ones, other hobbies also are good means of inspiration, like gardening and music and videogames ( i once got a whole ass story concept out of animal crossing outfits).

I think we put parts of oursleves and our lives into our work anyway (I kinda copy-pasted one of my friends into my story by accident) and yknow talking to someone irl about your story ideas can feel really nice and help you get a perspective on your ideas.

I can give you some anime about art and the struggles of art and writing and any creative endeavor. These ones inspired me a LOT when I was in my low point.

Sakurasou No Pet Na Kanojo is about a normal guy who gets thrown in a a dorm called Sakurasou, where all weird, chaotic art students are. In the middle of colorful cast involving a world-famous painter, a genius animator, a writer and a shut-in programmer, he remembers that he also had something he wanted to make. This series made me cry a lot because of how realistically it portrays failure.
Definitely recommended to EVERYONE here
