Alicia ad Kattar's first date did not go the best. Despite the fact that they'd been waiting for the moment for years, when it actually arrived she...snapped and yelled at him.

To know why exactly she was so upset, you'll have to read the chapter but suffice it to say, he was paying attention to everything in the restaurant BUT her.

“For heaven’s sake, what on earth are you looking at?”

He glances to the side like he’s pointing at the next table over with his daggers for eyes. “I think the other patrons are staring at me.”

I scoff and he looks quickly in my direction.

So now he pays attention.

I blow a gasket.

“Oh, big surprise. They’re staring. Did the prince just forget how hot he was for a second? I’m sure it’s such a pain. Too bad you left your paper bag mask at home next to the fan mail, and I’m not in the mood to fetch it for you right now. So if you could just try to think about something other than yourself for 0.2 seconds, we’re supposed to be on a date right now. Do you think you can do that for me? Do you think?”

Interesting that you ask this today: This is one day short of the 25th anniversary of my first date with Troy. Carmen (me, from WNHCD) and Troy's first date was a comedy of errors. It is truly amazing that we took that first date and made it into a 25 year relationship.

We had talked for months on IRC (a prehistoric chat program from the days before social media) and finally gathered up the courage to meet for a date.

First, on the afternoon of our date my truck broke down on the way home from my cottage. I was supposed to have met Troy in a safe, neutral place but now I was immobile. He had to drive through an extremely bad neighbourhood and come directly to my house.

Then, we went to see a movie (American Pie) and after the movie we stood up to leave and discovered that my ex had been sitting directly behind us the whole time, on his first date with his new boyfriend. If that wasn't awkward enough, his new boyfriend was all of sixteen years old (my ex was in his late 30's).

Then, after the movie we went back to my place. We were cuddled up on the couch. I was showing him my drawings (on paper back then) and we were about to get down to some serious snugglebunnies (yes, on the first date, but remember, we already knew each other through IRC) when a loud knocking came from my patio door. At 11:00 at night. In a bad neighbourhood. I grabbed a baseball bat and went to the door expecting the worst. It turned out to be my straight friend Rodney (I was still closeted at the time). He was looking for a ride to his drug dealer's house in Beaver Bank, 40 miles away. I was losing my mind, and told him to get bent. He did a very Rodney thing and looked at Troy, whom he had never met in his life, and asked HIM to drive him to his dealer!

Troy, not wanting to cause trouble, agreed to do so. We all pile into Troy's car and head off to Beaver Bank. We get to the drug dealer's house and Troy and I wait in the car. And wait. And wait. And wait. Twenty minutes have passed by the time I've had enough and go inside after him. I discover him on a couch in the basement smoking a joint with his teenage drug dealer and his buddies. While we waited in the car.

Well. I snapped. I lost it. I marched over, grabbed Rodney right by the lips (oh yes, I really did), and yanked him to his feet. One of the teenagers stepped up and confronted me. After I threatened his life and the lives of every teenager present he very wisely sat back down. I dragged Rodney out of the house and told him that if he said one word to me, even the tiniest little word, between Beaver Bank and home, that I would end his life in a very messy way.

We drove back to Dartmouth and in one final act of stupidity Rodney had the nerve to ask to be driven home. Needless to say, Rodney did not get a drive home. He walked away, and Troy and I returned to my apartment. After some hand wringing and apologising, our snugglebunnies resumed. We ended up falling in love and have been together ever since.

As for Rodney? The next morning, after Troy left to go to work, I called Rodney and told him that we needed to talk, He came over and I tore a strip off of him for his behaviour the previous night. And then I came out to him. I told him that I was gay and that Troy was my new boyfriend. Thankfully, Rodney was very accepting, but at that point I wouldn't have cared if he wasn't.

This, of course, is a condensed version of the events. The full story can be read here (this link will take you directly to the "First date, worst date" chapters):

Haha no judgement here. My ex and I waited a whole whopping 3 hours after first meeting each other to get down to business :joy:

Granted, much like yourself, we knew eachother trhough chat for a couple of months as well.

Congrats on the 25 years btw! :tada:

Mr. Giang opens his mouth like he’s going to say something but before he can, the waiter arrives with our menus and gives us a brief rundown of the weekly specials.

Bloody Mary Crab soup. Cucumber cooler. Bagels with boozy cherry jam and cream cheese.

Nope. Don’t consume alcohol on a first date. That’s first-date rule number one.

And though I have no reason to have any sort of suspicions, I have no reason not to.

I wonder if it shows in my posture.

I try to appear a little more perceptibly relaxed as I scan my menu for a relatively inexpensive item and order Mushroom steak with cheddar gravy at random.

I’m not sure if I’m paying for my food or if he is, but either way, something in the middle price range feels like the safest bet. I’ll avoid emptying either one of our wallets and any potential offense if he is the one paying.

How much money do you even make working at a convenience store? I haven’t worked at one since I was a teen.

Well, that’s probably why he still lives with his folks.

It's going to be a long time until Mora and Christopher can ever go on a date, but fun fact, Therese and Verner started dating the day they met and their first planned date was a sort of picnic in the woods on the hood of his truck

20 days later

was that a date or just their first meeting?
