Should bad words be NSFW?

I do not swear in my whole life, but I do when I get carried away easily.
I believe there are younger audience in Tapastic. I felt bad for those people who includes and just let people to read bad words in their posts and comics. If they do, they should censor these words. NSFW has mature content, right?

I don't think that the use of bad words should be labeled NSFW. If the words are used excessively and out of context then yeah that may be a problem. I mean I read comics like Bleach and Naruto as a young teen, and those are littered with profanity and young kids read it all the time. I think NSFW is for comics that are over-the-top in language violence and sex. Probably the difference between someone stubbing there toe and yelling "&@^!" and someone just saying "&@^!" every third word just for the sake of having bad language in the story. If this makes any sense I just think that a certain amount of maturity that should be involved when both inserting profanity and reading it. That being said I myself have profanity in my comics, however I don't believe it is outrageous enough to be labeled NSFW.

I would go by MPAA standards. Mostly, the profanity=nsfw correlation has to do with context and frequency. IMHO, using the F-bomb more than a couple of times in a comic might warrant a nsfw rating. If you want to play it safe, mark it nsfw or mention in the summary that there is adult language. As for the forum posts...well, people will say what people will say. Not everyone shares the same attitude towards curse words. Personally, bad language doesn't bother me, as long as it isn't hateful or degrading towards a person/group of people. My comic is a mystery with comedic undertones, and while there is some mild language(?), it's nothing extremely offensive, so I don't think it requires a nsfw rating. Generally, I think the NSFW warning is reserved for nudity and sexual situations and extreme violence (e.g. Walking Dead and Game of Thrones status).

But that's just my opinion ^.^

I agree its not NSFW unless used a lot.

I need to take them out of the first chapter of my comic. I didn't know what I was doing when I started. Thought it would make it cool but I got told not to use them a lot.

I think the only reason why I wasn't warned when I first started my comic was because I started using them much later on. However, I try to keep them specific to the character and situation and not be excessive, though I know I probably have or I've come very close.

No, definitely not. The only thing I'd ever label NSFW would be explicit sex acts, or 'sexualised' nudity.

Trust me, if a kid is old enough to read, they already know more ways to swear than you do.

I'm glad most everyone is in agreement on this subject. I actually did an interlude page a couple months back in my comic explaining that the upcoming pages would have swearing but I was not going to label them NSFW, and at first I was a little worried I would lose readers over it.

For me, personally, I don't think swearing is a big deal. And for my comic, there are things that happen down the line that will definitely be NSFW and I want my readers to know that if they see that label on a page, something actually serious is going down

NSFW means Not Safe For Work and the purpose is to give a person a heads up so a naked person doesn't suddenly appear on screen. Which would not make an employee look very good.

NSFW is not a rating.

I tend to forget that NSFW can be applied to anything other than explicit sexual content. I don't think you need a NSFW warning for bad language, unless perhaps you're using offensive or oppressive terms. I think if your comic has bad language in it frequently, just put a warning in the comic description.

Unless they're in 120pt font swear words are not NSFW. Adults have jobs and adults swear. If you want to argue for a "kid-friendly" rating that's another thing.

I also think it's important as artists that we stop trying to censor everything around us that may or may not offend people. That strategy does not have a happy ending.

Unless characters are constantly dropping F-bombs every page, I don't think it would be neccessary. I do have the occasional swear in my comic, however it's mostly limited to more dramatic "oh crap" scenes and the occasional more foul-mouthed character... and I don't really consider that enough for NSFW. If I see a NSFW warning somewhere, I assume "nudity and/or sex" or possibly "tons of gore".

Plus, there are words that are more "offensive" than just regular swears. A comic that users slurs/offensive terms should probably have a warning for this.
