Should I continue to have my NSFW content available publicly?

Okay so dont know if this topic is appropriate for tapas forums but what the hey? Anyways, this is something that I've been thinking about for a while and just wanted to ask since Im not sure if should make cause for concern.

Yes, I draw nsfw art of my characters. Not all of the characters, let me be clear, as a majority of the main cast is under 18. It's mostly centered around the parents of the mc and aged up versions of some of the main cast which I have previously drawn outside of adult situations. And for a while now, I've been mainly keeping that content on my DeviantArt, although recently, I have been becoming somewhat self conscious lately about continuing to have it up on there. Even though they're hidden behind mature content filters and in a folder that's watchers only, I feel having it up could become a problem, mainly later down the line where it could potential drama in the future (shit like cancel culture and stuff). I know what you're going to say, "well you shouldn't have posted that content in the first place". I get it! There's nothing I could really do there but I just want to make sure the seeds for any potential drama are crushed before getting the chance to grow. The nsfw content is wholly distinct from my main series and I want to keep it that way, and not let any bad actors try to manipulate that in any way.

But I dont know if Im being too paranoid or Im justified in feeling this way. So I wanted to ask for advice about this because Im honestly not too sure

depends on how worried you are but you could always make it available on a Ko-Fi
your story looks like its getting good traction I'm sure you'd get some supporters there

Ya, I saw your NSFW post on Twitter. That wasn't good move as we followers already perceived your usual account is for SFW artworks & comic. Better create another account for 18+ NSFW stuff. If not you can still add warning filter on NFSW or suggestive posts .

It just feels bizarre to me that people would try to cancel someone simply for being horny or having a sexuality. If you are an adult posting legal NSFW in a space that is 18+, I don't understand why people would give someone drama for that.

I think sometimes people do get a bit weirded out by unusual fetish art. And I have heard of an artist who somepeople don't like and people would troll him by posting his old embarrassing fetish art.

Why are you censoring yourself and your opportunities for some asshat on the other side of the globe who has nothing better to do than be appalled by the internet.

Why do you care to cater to someone else's sensitivities when many times they can't comprehend where you're coming from?

The only sensitivities worth caring about are the ones concerning accessibility. People with poor eyesight can't read your fonts? Make them larger and with better shapes. That sort of thing.

Kinda harsh but I get what you're saying.

I guess that its not that Im worried about offending people. I guess its more of said offended people making a fuss about starting a hate mob and I really dont wanna deal with that. I used to hang around those sorts and let's just say the left their scars on me.

Also the stuff I draw can be considered "furry" and there's a quite vocal group of people who have a giant hate boner for anything that could be considered furry with trolling and harassment following suite and I dont wanna go through that stuff again

I would only be concerned since your art style looks so Disney inspired, so putting it behind a paywall insures that tots and parents won't wander in and get confused and report like every boob they see. Like our art styles do attract certain audiences, so you have to be mindful of the age your audience may currently be and what their expectations are. Also if you're concerned about people hating on your more risque art because it is anthro, then like posting it on a furry specific site means it's to the correct audience that won't mind that. Not everything needs to be posted to every website.

Also a factor for my quire. While my series isn't targeted towards that young of a demographic, the age group Im trying to shoot for would make have my non sfw content publical available even on DA quite....(as the kids put it) sus. But that actually reminded me of a previous worry I had about parents seeing my series and thinking it was for little kids, and then they'd show it to their 5 year old and be horrified when in the first episode a cat gets sucker punched in the face with blood pouring out XD. Unrelated to the topic but I just thought it was funny

If you're worried about terminally online people being mad at you for drawing nsfw stuff, then... if they ever feel like targeting you, then they'll find a reason to attack you no matter how many walls you put between people and your lewd stuff (heck, even if you were to just delete it whatsover, they'd still probably fing a reason to get mad at you)

the only reason to be even remotely worried about this is if your series is specifically aimed at kids or you have a particularly interest in making 100% sure it's family-friendly and all-ages. Even then, that's not an instant death sentence for the idea of doing NSFW work, it's just worth thinking about and a good idea to keep it more explicitly cordoned off. Keeping it confined to Patreon is a very common tactic both for this and to gain more traction, sex sells and all that.

Overall though, no, absolutely not, do not give a shit whatsoever. Even if you're drawing 'objectionable' fetishy stuff, nobody with half a brain is going to try to cancel you over its mere existence.

The only thing I can think of is if you're drawing NSFW of underage characters. I may think it's gross, but it's also fictional, so I personally wouldn't try to cancel or deplatform an artist who draws that stuff. Unfortunately, my stance on that is not as broadly shared and it may present a problem for you if you did it, which you've specifically stated you aren't doing, so I would not concern myself with this in the slightest.

If your nsfw art is watchers-only and behind a mature content filter, then I don't think you have to worry too much about random people (and kids) seeing it. Someone would have to be 1) interested in your art enough to follow you and 2) 18+ in order to change their settings to allow adult content.

Having everything in one place could still be jarring for new watchers who do discover that folder, but I've seen artists pull it off before. I'd say it depends on who your audience is and how much mature content (even stuff like violence) readers already expect from your series.

One thing though is last time I checked, DA doesn't allow explicit 18+ art, so you could get in trouble for keeping it there. Putting it behind a paywall is an option, but I don't think you'd make much money unless your comic already has a large following (and again, if people are already expecting some level of mature stuff from you.)

I also draw nsfw (incl. nsfw of my characters) and I have 2 separate accounts on Furaffinity for that. The 18+ accounts link back to my main, but my main doesn't link to the 18+ accounts so they're fairly hidden.
