Show off the scenery in your comic!

So, I know that almost everyone and their cousin hates drawing backgrounds. But they're needed in order to show off the world that our stories take place in! Show me a few panels or pages of your comic, and the world that it takes place in! You can describe it with words as well if you'd prefer. These are some pages from my comic, ElectroMania, that I used to try and show off the city that the story takes place in.

I'll add that when I'm trying to put emphasis on the background/ surroundings of a panel, I prevent myself from showing the whole character's face. I think this helps lead the eyes across the scenery :> What do you think?

And yes! I think if you want emphasis on the scene, turning the character's face away helps a lot.

I love drawing backgrounds best! It's freeing to not worry about something and just have fun with lines and texture, which is harder to do on a character. But I'm also super critical and can't think of too many shots I like... The first one is from my buffer :"D but it's my favorite panel.

My comic is supposed to take place in LA but I've never been 8'D so drawing the backgrounds is a really big challenge. I think i've managed to do ok just by watching 80s LA cop shows and working on my comic while scenes are paused. Seems like it's just an ugly place, which is sooo fun to draw !

i used to never draw backgrounds but then i started doing them in a more painterly style and now i'm actually having a lot of fun with it
(this is on a huge canvas but some of these pictures are super tiny because i just raised my comic dimensions to 1600x2400 so the old ones look really low res aha)

I suck at backgrounds, but i try. My story so far takes place in a city called Osmium.

It focuses on an Academy within the city.

Scenario-wise there's also been the dream of one of the characters that i could add.

Really have to pay more attention to backgrounds, they make everything more interesting ;v;

Also @sorrelma damn i love the style of your backgrounds. Actually everyone here is doing a great job!

Backgrounds make me want to die so badly that I'm not sure if it's my motivation that's low or my actual skill

I usually just end up tracing backgrounds from 3d sources I construct by myself

So the fact you guys can actually do this amazes me

I don't mind drawing backgrounds. I think backgrounds are essential to setting the scene for a comic, and consider it a dealbreaker as a reader when characters are constantly in an ambiguous backgroundless purgatory (excluding simple gag comics ;d)

My comic Centralia 2050 takes place in a sprawling metropolis, so I've gotten very used to drawing cityscapes :u It used to be tedious, but now it's kinda nice to just zone out and draw tons and tons and tons of buildings.

Don't have any good scenery in Void, not the best with architecture honestly, but there were a few scenery shots from my main project that were fun.

Yo thanks! I gotta visit some day and do the comic Tour 8'D I've only been to California once and I was in middle school so I barely remember... plus I went to the north. I want to eat all the Los Angeles food!

I also gotta read your comic because it's cyberpunky (me fave,,, ) and the main dude has my same name 8'D I hope he will be the coolest.
