Let's say we have a very violent scene of someone getting ripped apart by a horde of demons?

What if it's silhouetted or blurred or pixellated? I've seen it done in some webtoons where depictions of human waste, or even things like ice picks or other weapons were blurred, silhouetted or pixellated.

Let's look at some panels from Lookism for example:

When jack chick tracts... they get publicly distributed by many churches and kids read them. The same churches that condemn depiction of violence in the media hand them out to kids, with the rationale being "gotta teach them the seriousness of sin and hell."

Lookism's should definitely be M. I think the blurring out does nothing on that second panel.

Maybe I'm not looking closely enough but I don't see anything NSFW about the Chick Tract. Which is not to defend it!

M ratings nowadays have a lot more to do with the milquetoast corporate-bourgeoise of advertising company HR departments, and very little to do with Christianity. Christianity hasn't been a cultural force influencing media since the late 2000's.

You might've had a similar experience to me though - growing up conservative-evangelical, bible stories were one of the only reliable ways to read stories with sex, violence, and gore. Most of the pearl-clutching types have never read the interesting parts of Judges, for example.

I grew up catholic... then I became agnostic (honestly unsure about pure materialism worldview or spiritual dimensions)... then got into new age / eastern spirituality, then got into a fundamentalist street preaching church that had a "fellowship house" where people living in it were like a de facto monastery (no clear cut rule on celibacy. The preacher originally wanted to set up a Christian compound with multiple families... but all the prayer, fasting, and street preaching made the gravitation towards celibacy... while criticizing catholic church celibate priests as "heresy")

But yeah... I remember as a catholic, the school posted pictures of aborted babies all over campus for all to see. This was circa 1990s... Philippines. Catholic schools and church were more serious and borderline militaristic. Priests routinely described graphic images of hell during the homily... enough to make a s3x crazed 13 year old boy to nofap for at least 2 weeks with the amount of fear they inject into your brain.

If you have to censor, silhouette. You can still convey the violence and intensity with just a silhouette of blood or guts being ripped open. Blurring and pixellation, especially for a serious work, are likely to take me out of the story. I'd avoid any non-diegetic elements like that.

I have read several Chick Tracts. The man who created them is straight up crazy and was super paranoid. I find a lot of them to be disgusting and straight up brainwashing material. I will throw them away whenever I see them in public. Anyone who gives them to children needs to be put on a list.

I have it blacked out with black solid forms.
Or change it to a white milk colour for Tapas.
And so far its been fine with no issues.
Mine are full colour pages.
I do the same thing for NSN, its solid black.

Brainwashing only works on a broken mind.

A general said "we break them to build something better".
Thats why the higher tier soldiers are more deep in their ideological brainwashing as well as having been subjected to more difficult training than the basic tier.

A mind breaks when the things they placed their faith in, falls apart. Family, community, religion, political persuasion, etc.

And in that broken state, something new can come in. Every testimony of FORMER Atheist, Christian, Muslim, Democrat, Republican, etc. has that common denominator.

Meanwhile, those in the mentioned groups that have a solid foundation in their family, community, etc... dont become a "former" no matter how convincing the foreign argument sounds.
