Silhouettes: Do you use them?

I often see concept artists use silhouettes to carve out designs and at the same time I see a lot of comic book artists strive to give their characters unique and striking silhouettes.

So I thought that it would be nice to have a thread where people post silhouettes they've drawn or painted with a couple comments about how they approach or like to use silhouettes in their work.

It's a strange subject but, I'd like to see what people use them for:
-Character design
-Flash-backs
-Lore type stories... anything!!

Currently the only one I have is the base for a painting I started.

I do use them, I think they can be very effective in storytelling. In fact, I did a whole 100 strip webcomic using them called Cautionary Tales.

I think you need to be carful with them, as some people believe them to be super lazy :v I don't personally but I try not to use them too often for that reason.

I don't use them very often, when I do fans complain that I am being lazy and half-assed the page. Same thing when I draw unimportant characters in the background without eyes so that the panel doesn't get too busy, (they'll still have ever other detail in their clothes and body) I will get messages about being lazy, my comic having a sudden quality drop, and if I continue to be this lazy they will have 'no choice' but to drop the comic =/

I use them occasionally, but not often. I drew a scene in a cave behind a waterfall, and for some of the panels I drew the characters and the rock as silhouettes against the water. Drawing fully detailed figures and scenery would have looked cluttered by comparison, and I think the solid black and falling water made for effective contrast. I've also used them to hint at an upcoming character. I've never had a complaint from readers, and I don't think anyone could reasonably call my pages lazy, even at their least detailed.

I really don't, but I'm experimenting for my next color page all with silhouettes, mostly based on the super smash brothers 4 silhouette style. Can't wait.

I use silhouettes when thinking about posing my characters. Here's a quick example I made using a 90's business man
