Hello!
Thanks for all of the constructive feedback, we are taking a lot of this into consideration and will try to apply it to future updates of the app. I will try my best to address as many questions, comments and concerns as possible.
I'd like to clarify that this update is the first of a series of updates that will gradually change the app experience. We wanted to roll out this first update to collect some information on how readers use the various modules in the Discover tab to see which ones are useful and which ones to de-emphasize with the hope of implementing the more successful modules to the community tabs. The community tabs will also play a much more prominent role in future updates with more visibility and accessibility than they have currently.
Our goal is to differentiate the Discover and Home tabs over time. During this initial phase, there will be quite a bit of overlap as readers get used to the Discover experience. We'll also be doing some testing on which series are displayed and tinker with it to try and reduce overlap.
As for the new iteration of the Daily Snack, while we removed it from the inbox, we are trying to increase it's overall exposure, usage and functionality. The current Daily Snack push notification will open the app and take you directly to that section of Discover. One of the core focuses in this newest iteration was to focus more on the visuals, and give readers a better preview of the comics or novels included in the Snack. I know that many readers loved the themed versions of the Snack, and we hope to revisit it in the future, but one of the more interesting innovations with this section is that each reader is given a Daily Snack that is unique to them. Our hope is to gradually cater the Daily Snacks to each reader's personal preference. Readers that are interested specifically in romance and comics, will be delivered series that fit that category - or if there are readers that are only interested in novels, the Daily Snack will cater to that. This is one of our more complex undertakings and will take quite some time to reach the level of personalization.
As for the discrepancy between the Trending on web and mobile, we're testing out algorithms that factor in different time frames. We've utilized a similar Trending algorithm on the web for quite some time, and have gotten some feedback on redundancy or it favoring the same creators repeatedly. We'll be testing the mobile app Trending algorithm to see if it promotes a wider variety of creators and if we see that's the case, then we'll roll that out on the web.
