It's not about me personally hating joke threads. It's more about, "well, if the mods/admins are shutting down joke threads because they think it's getting disruptive, having a separate category won't solve the issue as effectively as deleting those threads." Because if all categories show up by default... and not everyone knows you can even hide specific categories... yeah.

Tangent but relevant: I never really liked how the Tapas forum handles categories. It's not intuitive nor great for organization. Not sure if there's a feasible way of improving that, though.

Ha! Sorry, wasn't specifically implying you hated jokes.

I'm more along the lines of why does a joke thread gets blocked but a poll about rice or bread pops up for weeks?

What's allowed seems inconsistent.

Guess it depends on where you go to for the forums as a "home base". I use "latest" as my "home" since it shows threads that are most recently posted in. It's fun to skim through and see what's come alive in the last several hours.

I do not understand why that "share other's comics" thread was axed off the list since it was all about talking about other works you've found on the site. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Joke threads unfortunately can take over a forum with too broad of a general section (well or no sub-sections like this one). I basically avoid some for games I genuinely like because it's the same memes recycled every few weeks as people notice and bump old threads, making new users notice and repeat the process.

I know some place with low-effort thread rules, but it basically needs a lot of maintenance because jokes get retired and new ones get overused all the time to keep a consistent list of "things we can't do for the umpteenth time this week". It's a tough issue.

yeah but if they let one joke thread up, it isnt really fair for the rest

i understand keeping it to a minimum but some threads are being closed for dumb reasons, and the merging

all the merging does is have ppl click on the thread, see its 1000 replies long and.... click out...

i don't think they "let one" up. i think it's just when mods are off-shift. that's been a joke in discord groups I've been in. where the mod's are all offline and it's totally joke meme anarchy happening while they're gone, and it's crazy hilarious stuff, but the joke is that it's done when the mods aren't there.
I've also seen this happen on GAIA online

the mods said they would allow the joke thread in question but when someone makes one but FOR NOVELS its shut down, so novelists are not allowed to have a joke thread too?

I guess it's a matter of repetition. It's just like with some of these threads that aren't jokes but keep asking the same thing over and over:

The most recent being "Post your comic that's under 100 subs" and "Post your update for August 2019"

I literally saw 2-3 threads with this exact same title, and I was at the point where I'm going "do people just not read before making a thread? Do they just ignore the "Hey -- this thread is similar to XYZ" that pops up when you make a thread?"

And quite frankly, if it gets so long that there's over 1000 replies with little to no interaction, I would personally feel like it just wasn't a good topic in the first place? That's just my idea, though.

If it's a "post your story under ### subs!" and the thread is several thousand long I don't feel compelled to click it since that sheer number of posts tells me the thread is old, and likely the newest posts don't get lots of views. I may be wrong, but that is certainly my impression.

The "post your latest page august edition" is kinda....meh? It's made for comics. I might skim it, but there's no reason for me to post in it, since I have a novel. So a thread for novels to post their update specifically FOR NOVELS would be preferred. (The prime reason why I started a "post the last sentence you wrote" thread - it can be for novels or comics, and out of context sentences are always funny)

literally what i was refering to when i mentioned the thread with 1000 replies

That's exactly my point. Like...maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but a lot of these "Post your comic under/above # subs" aren't really engaging as ones that do "Post your comic But you have to ___" You're just posting your work and going about your business, and then of course it piles up. Which again -- goes back to me saying "this thread didn't really help anyone. It just buried people" At least with the latter, you're adding something new to the table to start a convo.

I dunno, comics or novels, I kinda rarely post in the updated page thing now -- it just doesn't feel engaging. People post their stuff, and they go. At least with the "Post your latest drawings", you get people stopping to look at other works and comment. It's like a gallery.

But overall, as my preference, I just don't like things to be clogged up. Like, if I see several threads with the same topic in a row that's burying everything else -- yeah, I'm gonna get a bit annoyed. Like "I get it, you're joking about the number of threads that do the sub count thing. I don't need 12 threads to get it".

guess that's my idea for "post pics of rude veg that Apple will hate thread" out of the window.

that was my fault. I did last months thread on posting your latest update and i should have just handed it off to one person but i left it open for anyone to take up the mantel and several people did . we have to consider time frame here after all the months end at different times in different places .

that was a stupid one, so Rodimus13 (the wife of the duo) actually was the first to make the thread for august, then someone made one after her, the mods did not shut down the newer one.... they shut down hers... made no sense at all

Tapas: Let's purge the single novel sharing joke thread that people seemed to genuinely like because it's an opposite counter part to a comic joke thread that didn't include novels. Can't have similar topics choking up the threads, now can we?

Also Tapas:

yeah, i rather have the joke threads than have someone necro all those, those threads are so common and kinda cookie cutter that the unique ones get people that dont even bother doing the unique thing

I see you complaining all the time about Tapas and the forums. Have to honestly ask, why do you still visit here? Seems like you aren't really enjoying it so I don't understand why you would continue to come to a place that causes annoyance for you.

This probably isn't aimed at me... But it frequently applies.

You can be a part of something that you're not 100% behind because you hope for change...and things, like sites and forums, will never change inside a digital echo chamber.

There HAS to be voices of discontent in imperfect systems.

there is a huge difference of constructive criticism and direct hostility.

The difference is that constructive criticism has a proposal to improvement and/or asking for the reason a thing is done a certain way while hostility is just plain complaining without adding anything to help.

I think @BobbyjoeXforgotensb is aiming for the former. Disagreements are not a bad thing, but how these are handled makes a huge difference on society`s problem solving skills.
