Hello there.
I have a novel around the concept of a world based in the things that appear in tock and heavy metal's songs (demons, Norse mythology, monsters, legends, etc...) and I'm currently reworking for a better end result. I accompany each chapter of a song, usually something related to the chapter in question, but I'm not completely comfortable with some I've used, so I'd like some recommendations, with the meaning behind explained if possible.
Chapter 1: A little girl refuses to go to bed and her grandfather tells her to stories in an attempt for her to sleep, explained the origin of the world and the legend behind the main antagonist. For this song, I used Queen's "Brighton Rock", which I'm comfortable with, but I could see some suggestions in case there's a better one.
Chapter 2: Many years in the future, the girl, Mercuria, has grown up into a young adult and assist her grandfather's funeral, feeling sad and betrayed as she participates in the ceremony and says goodbye to her grandpa. Later, on the way back home she reads the will and is surprised by her inheritance, so she rushes to the city on a motorbike to claim it. The song here is "Light in the Black", which I wanted to use to show the need to move forward and the beginning of Mercuria's adventure, as well as the confusion left by her grandfather's death.
Chapter 3: Mercuria travels to the city, Wunderland, and enters an administrative building where she has to stand an annoying greaser as she collects her inheritance, finding a message from her grandfather exposing the antagonist's return and giving her his last gift. The song here is "Paradise City", not bad but it might need a change.
Chapter 4: Using an object from her inheritance, Mercuria hitches a ride in a train possessed by a demon that is supposed to take her to wherever she has to go next to continue her path. Here she plays a song as her last farewell to her grandpa and falls asleep, having a dream about possible future events. The song here is "Black Gives Way to Blue", which talks about the pain of losing a loved one, but I don't like it that much because it diminishes the other aspects of the chapter.
Chapter 5: The train is attacked by demonic bikers and Mercuria is forced to fight alongside the other passengers. In the end, she is forced to use a powerful and dangerous object her grandpa gave her to protect, admiring it and fearing the consequences of using it. The song here is "Train of Love", which I feel very good for this one and even funny
Chapter 6: Mercuria arrives at Paradise City and enters a bar where she finds Glam, a singer obsessed with success and with a sense of fashion inspired by David Bowie's. Mercuria watches her performance and tries to convince her to join her, succeeding after demonstrating the truth behind her words. Here I used "Master Exploder", just because I felt like it, but I think it's good due to Glam's ability and confidence in her skills.
Chapter 6 extra: A chapter I want to make to explore more Glam's personality and her relationship with Mercuria, where the first one invites the latter to her home to pass the night and talk about how Mercuria got into her quest, as well as talking about their desires and objectives.
Chapter 7: Here Glam and Mercuria move to the place where a man lives that the singer thinks will join them since he's a roadie and taught Glam. In their way there, they run out of gas and have to push the motorbike as they complain about each other's faults, until they are interrupted by a demon that offers them a deal in exchange for Mercuria's object. Here I used "Tribute", once again just because I felt like it, but I think it fits the chapter.
Chapter 8: Both girls arrive at Rosaleón's house, who is relaxing on his porch with his dog. Glam introduce's the roadie to Mercuria, and he offers them a beverage to refresh themselves. The singer tells him their plans and asks her to join them, flattering him in the process, as well as to drive for them, to which he accepts so that he can go back to the road and shows them what will be their tour bus, as well as giving the band a name. Here I used "The Last in Line" to express a new stage of the travel, but I think I should save a song this epic for another time, so now I'm thinking in using "We Are The Road Crew"
Chapter 8 extra: Another chapter I want to make while rewriting, where instead of moving out, Rosaleón invites the girls for dinner and talks about his past adventures as a roadie, as well as where they will head next, to had more depth to all characters.
Chapter 9: The group comes across the desert known as The Plain of Swords in their way to the Land of Metal, explaining the story behind the place and discussing the local fauna, until they take a detour to investigate a strange behavior in Mercuria's object. One of the things I want to improve here is Mercuria's knowledge of local fauna thanks to her grandpa's annotations and the knowledge shared with her. The song here is "Knights of Cydonia" because I was hearing it a lot and thought it would be fitting for this.
Chapter 10: An epic battle against great danger. Here I used "Through The Fires and Flames" and I don't have any regret or doubt.
Chapter 11: Having been knocked unconscious before, Mercuria wakes up in the middle of a stair that leads to the top of a large tower and walks towards it. On her way up, mechanical creatures awake and begin playing drums over pillars surrounding the tower, and a couple start singing and playing the guitar. At the top, she meets the guys performing, two Gods of Rock with whom she begins to talk and receive advice on her travel, as well as being encouraged to face her insecurities. Here I used "Thunderstruck" because the song the gods play is inspired by it, and it's a tower in the middle of a perpetual storm, so not much option left.
Chapter 12: Glam and Rosaleón are sitting by a campfire making dinner and the roadie sends the singer back to the bus, where she sees that Mercuria as woken up. They celebrate but are ambushed by a group of bikers, with their leader teasing them, and a savior comes to their aid. Here I used "Halls of Valhalla", but I'm not very comfortable with it and would like to change it.
Chapter 13: Bellaria, a valkyrie, saves the group and allows them to escape as she fights against the bikers, using their numbers against themselves. Eventually, the bikers create a giant monster from scrap that Bellaria defeats, leaving her exhausted and vulnerable to an attack from the biker leader, who scars her. The valkyrie retreats and catches up to the group, but the bikers follow them and open a hole in the tunnel they're staying, attracting a dangerous animal. "Immigrant Song" seemed like the best one for this chapter at the moment.
Chapter 14: The group tries to slow down the monster so that they can escape, causing a discussion were Bellaria constantly ask for Mercuria's object to use against the creature, to which the girl refuses. With no other option left, Glam and the valkyrie move to the roof of the bus and fight to keep the beast at bay, eventually escaping and blocking the exit so that it can't follow them, but Bellaria takes what Mercuria has been protecting and leaves. Here I used The Creepshow's "Run For Your Life", which seemed fitting.
Chapter 15: Bellaria arrives at an unspecified location where she is greeted by a man who reproaches her for the many mistakes she has made, even if she succeeded in her mission in the end, and mentions how she was expelled from her home. The man tells that he wants the antagonist to return since he believes that the demon is the only one that can unite the world under one rule and he leaves Bellaria to think about her intentions. Here I used "No Surrender", but maybe "Spectre", form Judas Priest as well, might be better.
Chapter 16: Anaxandria, the daughter of the Metal Priest, walks to her garden to forget about her troubles and take care of her plants, but a demon appears and wants to make a deal with her. The young woman thinks she has the losing end of the bargain and makes changes, to which the demon accepts and they start a violin duel. Here I used the metal cover of "The Devil Went Down To Georgia", and I have no regrets.
