Note: This is all metal songs, fellas. Just letting you know now.
Let's start with one I already made a story about(a metal song, no less). This here song I used as a guiding inspiration to create a short horror story. The basic idea is that evil spirits can jump into the bodies of humans and turn them into monsters for the purposes of hunting other, specific people they single out (but can't possess directly, because that'd be unsporting). They like stalking their targets and manifesting in a way that only their target can see as a way of unnerving them before they go for the kill in earnest. I don't have that posted anywhere, but if I get enough interest I'll consider posting here.
To be honest, I planned for it to be much longer, but I hit a roadblock plot-wise, so I snipped it off at a natural stopping point at a little over 7k words. I did it in under a week.
Next, a single song that gives me inspiration to write a story. This one gave me an idea with potential for an entire trilogy of novels, but let's keep it to one for now. The general idea is a cyberpunk-ish sci-fi setting where humanity has essentially excised its own desires and aspirations via cybernetics because society sees them as an impediment to functioning. As a result, even though it's the 22nd century, we haven't bothered to colonize Mars very much since we'd be in no pressing need for resources when killing human desire has also removed all demand for wasteful consumer goods (like those cheap USBs they hand out at corporate marketing events). On one hand, we've learned to be hyper-efficient with resources and conscious of the environment, but on the other scientific progress is now mostly on the backburner.
I'll be honest with you, just the entire way this song is, between the vocals and the absolutely amazing instrumental rhythm, it's practically designed to be inspirational in some measure
Lastly, an entire ALBUM that makes me want to write something. This entire album right here (not counting the 'alternate versions' some songs have, don't care about those) just has this amazingly grimdark, gritty sort of feel to it between the instrumentals and lyrics, just looking through the lyrics makes me think of some sort of grimdark medieval fantasy that I'd totally dig. Unfortunately, I can't find the entire album on one video, so here's a playlist link.
The playlist is missing a song, so here it is:
