Johnny Cash: "Hurt"

Originally a Nine Inch Nails song about Trent's addictions, transforms to a man at the end of life reflecting on all that he's lost. Lie Down. Try Not to Cry. Cry a Lot.

"Gentle on My Mind" (also a Johnny Cash cover)

About a Hobo reflecting on the woman he is/was in love with.

"You Want It Darker" Leonard Cohen

I have no words for this song. This is less sobbing tears, more that feeling of being empty and done.

Yeah, I have a few. Hear me out but Miley Cyrus "Bottom of the Ocean" brings me to tears. I can't even listen to it anymore. Don't want to talk about it in depth but I lost a friend in middle school and the song reminded me of her. (I don't mean "lost" I mean lost. She's not with us anymore.) ...I know it's a pop song but I was super into the album during this time.

Also, Dido's "Northern Skies" is a lovely song but it also just feels so desolate and empty.

You want a good cry? Here, have this whole album

I strongly recommend listening to the whole thing for maximum sadness (if not, at least listen to the last 3 songs). it's been years since i discovered this album but that last track still gives me such chills ugh

Just remembered another one! Hast Thou Considered The Tetrapod by The Mountain Goats. It's about a kid trying to avoid getting beaten by their stepfather and failing. It's obviously very heart-breaking but it's the end that gets me every time where the kid vows to keep going despite everything. It's that determination in the face of adversity that makes me tear up.
