oh I am absolutely pooping my pants over here in the US, and like if anyone's not, I'll take what they're having. Like OMG my nerves are freakin done. This effects everyone world wide, and it's been horrible to watch happen on the level of how many people have died and lost their homes and basically everything, and it's been horrible to see the effects go into pretty much every part of the economic chain, especially in vulnerable places.

And like it sucks because you feel so hopeless because you can't do much to change world leaders. We can protest and we can argue but that's like about it. It's a real feeling of no control.

e that the Russian people turn on Putin (there are already loads of anti-war demonstrations), because in my opinion, he's a foul little bully who thinks that he's entitled to invade other countries just because he can.

I just hope that the war ends soon, because so many people are being killed or forced to flee Ukraine, all because of that horrible, selfish man in the Kremlin.

However, I'm worried for the thousands of refugees. I know that people are sending supplies (my parents dropped off lots of tinned food and toiletries to a donation point), but will it be enough? Women have to give birth in cellars, and kids with cancer are running out of chemo drugs.

I'm also worried about what will happen if Putin gains control. He's a notorious homophobe, and he's a warmongerer too- what sort of awful things would he do to the people of Ukraine? He's already accused the Ukrainian government of genocide, and all the Russian state TV just blindly agrees with him. (Russia Today was taken off the air in the UK, my country, due to this.)

A couple of children and their mother have been arrested in Russia for putting flowers outside the Ukrainian embassy. I'm somewhat worried that if Putin pulls out, he'll take out his anger on thousands of Russians who never wanted the invasion to happen.

What's going on makes me sad, but I try not to think about what might come, especially that there's nothing really I can do about it. You cannot really prepare, right? So I try to just focus more on what can I do now- like donating money, food and other stuff that is needed. I've heard that in my city you can join in making camouflage nets, so I'll probably do that during the weekend. We are Ukraine's neighbours, so the best we can do is calm down and help as much as we can.

It is often said of history that one common solution for internal economic problems seems to be to start a war somewhere to take peoples' minds off the first problem. Lots of major countries are suffering with serious inflation & other economic problems. "Put your bets down in the table, ladies & gentlemen."

Isolating a country and its people runs the risk of increasing resentment towards those punishing them. Runs the risk of giving Putin more power. Or whoever follows next after him.
It's bad international diplomacy.

For example Hitler gained power because the German population were punished relentlessly for ww1.

As for this crisis. I'm suspicious of the propaganda. Threat of ww3/nukes...been there before in the 80s. We just got on with life. Your cooker could explode any moment..you could be hit by a bus.
Heart goes out to those unfortunate souls in Ukraine.
Those in power do not care for life.

But they also have more motivation to change their government because of isolation. I know, that a lot of russian people were against Putin even before this war, but they are really afraid because of unfair laws. I think now they have chances higher than ever to change things.

Yeah I know a Poland friend who's telling me they won't take that option. She's also telling stuff me like how American Journalists aren't even talking about the refugee situation correctly.

Honestly this whole situation taught me to be angry at the news outlets. The way they just glorify NATO and scare people is infuriating. I get the news is obsessed with telling the breaking of the commandments and all that, but the narrative they're giving is stupid. It's like "Corona is so old news! I know! WW3!".

I believe what's happening in Ukraine is real and Zelensky is a real champ, but hot damn.

Seriously tho, I'm glad there's people like you (and my friend) on the internet. Without your perspective, people would just be lost in the dark, not sure how to continue with life. I'll be sure to copy and paste your message.

This push for punishing everyone and treating them all as the enemy...when its clearly not as simple as that..its quite disturbing and could be damaging in the long run.

I don't think we should worry about nukes but hydrasonic missiles and chemical warfare.
the west is pretty much safe for now although I understand how it can cause anxiety,
a lot of things are happening right now that ate very similar to what we've heard stories about from the cold war and the Vietnam war etc the lack of food on the shelves, basic materials like cardboard and tin, inflation etc
The New Start Treaty doesn't end until 2026 so Nukes would be a war crime, (as would chemical warfare) not impossible, just unlikely.
but for now the west is safe.

I've heard things from people I watch/ follow who live in Poland/Russia

in Poland, the girl I'm following is housing at least 3 families in her house, and it took her 5 days to have everything just sink in.

a lot of this is censored cause the video is in Russian so if Russian youtube catches what they say they could go to jail, some of the answers are canned responses, and the word War has been banned (they have to say 'special operation) they're not allowed to acknowledge it because there are so many laws against freedom of speech

Not afraid of WW3 coz a person would have to be pretty psycho to launch a nuclear attack. When I was younger, the imagery of a ground zero blast used to scare me a lot, but now it's the after effects that scare me: the fallout, the radiation levels being disastrous for years(possibly even decades); everything is contaminated(plants, meat, water, air)...

As @GumshoeComix kind of mentioned/alluded to, I think a lot of countries have turned to the extreme of chemical warfare to keep from crossing that line into using nuclear weapons(still inhumane af though).

Economics is another beast...pisses me off that a handful of people are controlling/manipulating/influencing everything that goes on with the world's economy.

For the News it's over but in my country it got really bad again. And the Fasnacht (alot of people in costumes close together) made it so much worse.

As for Putin, I'm not sure, how far in the mad-man scale he belongs. but even he should know, if he goes nuclear/chemical then it's over for him. Still though we as civillian cant do much about that...

The reason why the Nato doesn´t make / can´t make further moves is because they are scared that Putin will use nuclear weapons.
This means that the country will get invaded, more people will get killed. Russia wouldn´t have a chance right now when WW3 breaks out,
but Putin can use nuclear weapons, he knows the world is scared and this means the Nato will not make a move

I live in Finland, a country that shares borders with russia and a country that has been taken over by Russia many times, Russia even threatened Finland that they will invade if they join NATO, and every once in a while I see army planes and helicopters in the distance flying past, so you know that this is going to get bad, because just stop and think, its Putin, once he has Ukraine do you think he will stop? Of course not, this is not going to end well,
