Starting a Webcomic? Securing a title?

This is a pretty simple short question. I'm in the middle of illustrating my first web comic and don't plan on uploading it anywhere until I finish chapter 3 so I have a year long buffer (currently in ch 2). I estimate that I won't get done until summer 2018 due to school, work, babysitting, and hand cramps. I wonder if I should go ahead and "create a new series" now anyways. I'm afraid if I wait too long someone will take my title. Has anyone had an issue with their web comic having the same name as another?

unless your title is a portmanteau, in a different language, or just completely made up - chances are you're gonna have a similar name to something else xD like one of mine is in a different language, but in english it's a word away from the same as King's Folly's title :')

I sat on my comic url for around a year? because I was afraid someone else would take the url I was planning after seeing someone use a url that was different than the title of their comic haha. I just put a placeholder image for the icon and put that the comic was still in the works as a description if anyone just so happened to stumble upon it (which someone did, and they ended up subbing for some reason?).

I don't particularly know if there's a rule against squatting on urls, but series don't show up publicly on your profile or in search (?) if it doesn't have any episodes.

If your google you title and it doesn't appear as a top result you should be good. I made a comic a week or two ago and I googled my title got a much of other stuff before my comic showed up in the results. If your email not ready don't force yourself. If its a common title it probably exists if it is original its unlike someone will have the exact same one

As long as you don't mention the comic title on blogs/forums/social media you should be fine, use a cool sounding project name instead! Unless the title is something very common, which will probably causes problems later down the line regardless. I worked on my comic for over a year but didn't reveal the title until the day I published it.

My comic shares a title with a song- on the album it appears thismaybetheyear. I just spaced the words out.
I was a little worried about similar issues, but i amazingly don't have a title too similar to anyone here on tapas.

I'm pretty sure titles can't be copy righted, so even if you share a name with something else, nothing legal-wise would happen.
But if you want to check for the "unique-ness" of your title, a quick google search will tell you.

Honestly though, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Once readers get into your story, I doubt anyone would care much about whether or not your title is like another one
