Subconscious Influences?

Ever thought to yourself: "What made me think of this idea in the first place?" and then you track down your previous influences that shaped your comic or novel story.

In my case, there are several influences that shaped "Lyza's Sandstorm" and here are mine:

1- Blaze from Streets of Rage especially in Lyza's design... wasn't thinking of Blaze because I had that character in my dreams.
2- Claire Redfield from Resident Evil

As both are my favorite characters from the franchises.

3- Asterix and Obelix since both Lyza and Ethan has somewhat of resemblance to them

Those are some that I can think of at this point... how about yours?

That happens a lot to me. I consume so much media for so long it begins to erase the borders between what I think off and what I remember.

I made it a part of my creative process to check tvtropes or similar sites to see if I'm not copying my big idea from something I watched 15 years ago.

PS: I remembered one time this happened a long time ago, when I accidentally copied an idea from an anime I saw when I was 8 years old.

Some of my influences are influenced by the cover artwork of comics
and me imagining what the comic would be like. I was a teenager in the 80s and there
was no comic shop in my town and no internet and I had no money so I only knew some
comics from advertisements in other comics. From the cover artwork I was imagining
the stories and I think that will always be a subcoscious influence and also a start
of my creative journey. I bought some of the comics later to check out what they are
like and I was disapointed because the cover artwork was more promising than the
comics

Probably the things that informed my taste when I was much younger-- things like Tamora Pierce books, this fantasy comic called Meridian, older manga like Inuyasha. I haven't consciously tried to make my work like these, and I read them all so long ago I can't really rember how the stories went. Nonetheless they hover at the back of my mind, influencing my creative decisions.
