Some of the comics have multiple versions (i.e. in different languages), and currently you can click on the little yellow icon to switch between the languages. The icon has a 文 and an A in it.

Would it be possible for each language to have its own icon, though? For example, to switch to the Korean version, you'd click on a yellow button that says 한. XD It'd be a lot more recognizable. Plus, you'd instantly know if the other version is your own language.

I imagine it could get crazy if we have like 50 different languages across the site. But maybe we could assign unique icons just for the most common ones, and the rest gets generic 'switch language' icon...?

Would it mess up the site layout if one comic had more than two language versions?

I guess some languages are more difficult to represent than others, too... hmm ^^;

It's true, the language button isn't easy to catch, yellow and all. When I was trying to get my Spanish speaking readers to check my support program comic I told them they could read it in Spanish if they wanted, and got lots of people asking me how. I had said "just click on the language button" but they didn't see it.

Maybe if it was a bit bigger, and actually said "language" or "translate" or something similar? It's great that it's yellow because you can just tell people to click the yellow button, but it would be nice if people who aren't used to Tapastic would easily realize there are languages other than English available on certain comics.

I don't make a comic in another language but I also think the button is misleading - I thought at first that it was just for comics also in Chinese (because the first comic I saw it on was Mindbound, which in that case, the comic IS actually in Chinese). It wasn't until I moused over it on someone else's comic that I realized it was for any foreign language.
Maybe making it show a few different letters? From a handful of languages?

Or a bigger, more noticable button that says 'Other languages'...

I think something like "language" or "translate" would be a good idea, you can use different letters for say, Korean or Chinese, but if it's something like Italian or Spanish it's a bit harder xD also making buttons for every language would be a lot more work.

I also like the yellow stuck_out_tongue

Well, keep in mind that Tapastic was mainly a Korean-based website when it started (I believe). So that's why Korean is sort of stressed on more than other languages because most of Tapastic's original fanbase and series were based with Korean roots. Of course many of these languages have been translated.

Having an individual button for every language (or even most common ones) would just be too many buttons tbh Especially considering we really don't have that much of language diversity here on Tapastic, in terms of series go (readers is another story altogether). I think the most common are English, Korean, German, and French/Spanish/French-family of languages.

Not to mention it also takes work to actually translate the comics. How many comics do you know are actually translated into more than one language? Some might be translated in Korean and English, or German and English, etc. but there aren't a lot of comics that are translated in so many languages that they need more than one button IMO :U

The thing is, even to a Korean, the current button is not at all obvious. I'm Korean and the only reason I figured it out was because I'd already known there were different languages versions on Tapastic for the particular comic I was looking at. In other words, I had to actively look for it. It MIGHT be more obvious to Chinese people, but I'm not sure.

A different language version, if it exists, is an important thing, so the button should be made bigger and more clear as to what it does.

Unique icons for just 4-5 most common languages here, plus a generic (but still noticeable) one for all other languages would be splendid. But unique icons or not, the current one just isn't noticeable enough...

I've seen national flag icons being used for language, and they really pop out. Maybe Tapastic can do something like that, but neater so it fits the layout? smiley

weird, this thread categorized itself as intro/ feedback/ shoutout. O_o
