"I have an idea." Andrew starts focusing and channeling his inner overlord powers. Cate sees what he is going to do and steps on her broomstick to catch him just in case he messes up big time.
Once he focused enough, fleshy protrushions erect from his back and start to envelop him. It was at this point, that Andrew jumped off the ledge.
“That’s a great idea!” Genii pointed at Aster. “Fly across with the rope, land on the other side and tie it to something... then people can get across...”
Dangling on the end of a rope? That idea terrified Gemma.
“That could wor-“ Erras was suddenly interrupted by Andrew declaring he had an idea, which was great... but the sorcerer didn’t share the idea - he just jumped off the cliff.
“What are you doing man!?” Erras bellowed after the Andrew. Gemma screamed and covered her eyes.
Bellah peered over the ledge to see what the fire breather was going to do.
Genii got closer to the edge too and was ready to jump after Andrew if he needed to.
It was tough, but the transformation was managed to be completed before Andrew hit the ground below. A fully grown red overlord, Vermillion, emerges from the flesh cocoon and lands on the ground with a tremor.
It turns around and starts to take off with its four wings. Vermillion (Andrew) was heading straight for the ledge gap. Clawing his way in the mountain right between the ledges to form a bridge with his shoulders.
Cate smiles as she witnesses Andrew, looks like he didn't need her help this time around.
The ground shook as Andrew hit the ground below, but the tremor didn’t dislodge more of the footpath luckily.
“Hah! Awesome!” Genii said staring at Vermillion below them. “Gem...” he waved to his sister who was whimpering behind her hands (afraid Andrew had splatted on the ground below). “... come and look... he’s fine.”
Gemma sniffled and clung to Genii by the edge of the path so she could see.
Genii, Gemma, Erras and Bellah all watched the red creature climb the cliff side and moved back once it reached the path.
“What is that thing!?” Gemma was squeezing Genii’s arm so tightly he complained about it.
“... that’s Andrew.” Erras had seen Andrew transform before back at the Niduu tree. “Look he’s bridged the gap. Let’s get across... one at a time.”
“Gemma...” Erras offered his hand to help the Siren onto Vermillion’s shoulder.
Gemma hesitated at first, but stepped forward, took Erras’ hand and hopped over the slim gap between the ledge and Monster-Andrew. She whimpered and clung onto Vermillion’s protrusions as she carefully made her way through them. There was a similar gap once she reached the other side so she took a deep breath and jumped across it.
“Alright... that’s one, who’s next?” Erras gestured for the others to follow Gemma.
Erras held out his hand for Danivere. “Watch your step.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll catch you if you fall off.” Genii said from behind, lining up to go next.
Bellah quietly followed after Aster and Makna. Just like back at the Niduu tree she was a bit nervous of heights. They should have taken the mountain tunnel.
Gemma sidestepped towards Danivere and went to help her up.
“YOU OK?” Genii couldn’t see past Andrew’s pointy bits, but he didn’t hear a scream so hopefully Dani had made it.
“Up you get...” Erras helped Genii onto Vermillion’s shoulder.
“Uh, this is weird.” Genii mumbled as he weaved through the rock-like tines, his tail sweeping behind him. “Thanks Andrew.”
Erras gestured to the next person in line to hurry.
Genii jumped the gap between Vermillion and the path, hoping to a stop beside Danivere and Gemma.
Bellah held on tightly to Aster with one hand and clawed at Andrew’s protrusions with the other. She didn’t look comfortable (like a panicked cat).
Genii turned to see who was crossing next, smirking as he saw how frightened Bellah looked. She’d belittled him plenty of times for being scared of things, but he decided not to say anything.
“One at a time - one at a time!” Erras warned as Aerith, Hanako, Luci and Jin made their way over the creature. He could see Andrew wasn’t level with the path anymore, people were having to step down just to reach his shoulder.
As Aerith and the others made it to the path on the other side the ground sunk slightly and part of ledge crumbled away, making the walkway thinner.
The group being gathered in one spot was weakening the cliff edge.
Genii copied Gemma and put his back to the cliff wall. “It’s going to drop... Keep going Gem!” He encouraged his sister to keep walking.
Gemma muttered nervously to herself and started to side-step (very slowly) away.
“Hurry!” Erras said to the people who still needed to cross, as he heard the cliff starting to collapse on the other side.
((Night everyone! ))
Bellah might have been crushing poor Aster’s fingers, but his calm voice really helped. What didn’t help her anxiety was seeing the path receding once they reached the other side of Andrew. She quickened her pace and clung to the back of Aster’s clothes.
Gemma had reached sturdier ground, where the path widened out again. They were higher at this point so she could see Andrew/Vermillion and the rest of the group who hadn’t crossed over yet.
Bellah was too nervous to feel humiliated. She followed Aster’s instructions and kept her eyes on him, trying to ignore the sound of the wind, rocks dropping and the others shouting.
“Come Makna. I’ll take you across.” Erras hopped down onto Andrew and encouraged the Land Dragon to do the same. “Nice and slow now.”
Genii joined Gemma and watched the others below. “Woah. Look at those wings...” He exclaimed, now that he could see all four of Vermillion’s dragon-like wings from his position.
“That’s it...” Erras walked backwards so he could watch Makna, weaving through Vermillion’s shoulder spikes as he went.
As Vermillion had slipped down a little, Aster and Bellah might find they’d need to climb or jump to reach the the path on the other side.
“They’re so slow... should I fly down and help?” Genii said to the group gathered further up.
Bellah clung tightly to one of Andrew’s shoulder spikes, watching as Aster climbed the cliff. She hissed and yelled something at Erras as the Knight accidentally backed into her.
“My apologies!” Erras turned and held his arms up in surrender as the Aamami continued her verbal onslaught.
Suddenly the rock ledge dropped at the end where Aster was waiting to help Bellah up. Bellah stopped cursing and shut her eyes, but the cliff edge landed against Vermillion’s shoulder with a loud ‘THUD’.
The long ledge of stone groaned and started to crack under the pressure. It was a steep angle, but if they ran for it they might make it before the whole section of path continued its course to the ground 200 metres below them.
“The path!” Genii yelled and pointed as the cliff dropped and landed against Andrew.
“No!” Gemma held her hands against her mouth to stop herself screaming, as Andrew (and all the people on his shoulders) started to fall.
Bellah reached out for Aster to pull him closer to the spike she was clinging to.
Erras wasn’t holding onto anything, so as soon as Andrew fell he stumbled and slid down the Overlord’s back with a surprised yelp.
Genii ran as far away from the edge of the cliff as he could, then ran back again - stretching out his wings before leaping off.
He’d expected to glide down, but as soon as he left the cliff his wings caught the wind and he rose straight upwards. Erras hadn’t taught him about Ridge Lift yet.
Serenity was still on the first side of the cliff, along with Daemon. They hadn't crossed yet and Daemon was about to intervene, but he saw that Andrew has a determined look in his eyes.
The overlord rears his tail and plunges it into the mountainside like an anchor. Vermillion gets up on the cliffside again. It inhales massive amounts of air before exhaling a ray of flames at the rocks near the gap, attempting to melt and relocate them to complete what the path lacks.
((I'm heading to bed, good night!
Genii reached the top of the updraft and flapped his way out of it. He dove down towards Vermillion and tilted out of the way (with a few curse words) as the huge Overlord spewed out a ray of flames at the mountain.
The inferno was hot enough to melt the cliff side. It glowed orange and white in the heat, dripping like molten lava.
Bellah clutched Aster tightly once Andrew had slammed the breaks on with his tail.
Erras grabbed at anything and everything as he slid down Vermillion’s jagged back. He bounced and flipped off the end of the creatures anchored tail with an “Aaargh!”
Gemma caught a glimpse of Erras flinging through the air and turned away, she couldn’t watch anymore.
“I’ll get him!” Genii dove again to save his mentor.
"Got ya!" Genii grabbed hold of Erras' ankle, then spread his wings out to stop. The two of them jolted as the wind caught the Siren's feathers, but they slowly continued to fall.
"... you're so... heavy!" Genii huffed, frantically flapping. Erras may have taken full advantage of all the free food and beer in Terrafirm.
"H-head for the cliff!" Erras instructed as he dangled upside down. "The wind will take us-" Erras slipped out of his boot. "Ahhhh!"
"Erras!" Genii made to dive again.
As the Overlord started to move Bellah pressed her face against Aster, preferring not to look as they rocked and wobbled each time Andrew climbed higher.
Gemma appreciated Danivere's attempts to comfort her. She tried to be brave, but whimpered and had to keep wiping her eyes.
Cate continued cooling the molten rocks, and they slowly started to go from a bright orange to a crimson red before fading out in a coal black. Smoke came from the rock formation that formed inbetween the two ledges. She notices Erras falling and Genii going after him, and she swoops in too.
Serenity and Daemon look at the smoldering pathway laid in front of them. Would it be safe to cross now?
Andrew reaches the path and tilts his head, and one of his large curled horns reaches next to the ledge where Danivere and the others are standing. The others could get on the path again by traversing the horn.
