Folks - thanks for tuning in to the livestream. Just wanted to share some stuff I mentioned in the livestream, which may not cover all possible questions but just to share some answers in random order:
App issues: search is not there yet, png images are not loading, ads have not been serving until very recently, and some other issues still exist. We're aware of these issues and we're fixing them right now. You might have felt the new Tapas app was only half finished. We hear you, and we would have felt the same way, especially for the first couple days of the launch. We've since quickly fixed a lot of issues on the server side; also, the new version app with many more fixes and improvements are coming soon (Sorry but search feature will be coming in the next iteration of the app, after this new update). We wish the launch had gone more smoothly and the apps had fewer bugs and crashes, but what's done is what's done and we're now busy fixing issues and improving features.
Why are x features not available on the new app? (Daily snacks! Profile wall!) As we often say, this is only the first version of the app so please don't think the app will be in its current form forever -- more features and improvements coming soon, so please hang tight. But I also wanted to make sure that you understand we're not just improving the old Tapastic app with incremental changes. That wasn't the goal. We wouldn't have made big announcements in the past if we were simply updating features of the existing app here and there. What we did was to have a big update not just with the product but as a company, where we decided to focus on building the new business model and expand into new stories format in addition to comics, starting with novels. Our love for comics have only grown after hosting nearly 300K comics. But we also believe stories can take different forms (comics, books, or some sort of combination of two, like illustrated stories) and we're really trying to innovate the way stories are published and consumed in episodic format especially for mobile users. Also, TBH books do have potentially wider audience based on the market size (as a company we should always try to find ways to grow audience) and putting comics next to books might also hopefully increase discoverability of comics by the people who may not normally read comics. In the future we can also imagine some cool things like cross-breeding, ie. novels being produced into comics and vice versa, through author collaborations etc.
Keys and coins...? WTH? As we know, the introduction of keys and coins doesn't mean we're forcing people to pay up. The vast majority of content on Tapas(tic) is free, including all of comics you were reading for free. Only some select titles have locked episodes and even those titles have free episodes. But something we can do better is education.. because just seeing the keys and coins without much explanation might make users a) wonder what those are in the first place, and b) assume now everything is paid.
Why not provide open publishing platform for novels too, similar to Tapastic? We're not deliberately excluding creators other than professionals to publish novels on Tapas. We simply don't have self-publishing dashboard for novels, as of today. That's why we started with some partners to launch the novels section. We plan to figure out if/how to support the open publishing platform for novels; but right now there's no definitive plan. That's where we are right now.
That name..? Tapas? Well, I'd say a rogue company trying to hide something isn't necessarily the only reason for changing the service name
Zenpayroll, a fast rising HR software company that's one of the most respected companies, recently changed its name to Gusto, for instance. We thought this change was significant enough that it warrants a name change, and also Tapas is our company name (Tapas Media) so we're going back to our roots. Also, whole lot of people mispronouncing/mistyping our name (Taptastic) wasn't really something we were terribly enjoying either. It's those reasons, not because we want to hide something
Well I can go on but my fingers are starting to hurt now and your eyes too probably at this point, so I'll stop here.. I'll try to address some more questions either in livestreams or on this forum!
