Yesterday I had multiple updates through the day, so that usually means NSE get somewhere up there on the popular pages. However I noticed a few times it dropped off of them for 30 min -> 1 hour for no reason, only to come back after a while (I made a post about this on my wall yesterday too, since I found it pretty annoying)

Then there's the front page(I took these screenshots just now).I get that this has stuff to do with not saturating the front page with just one genre of comic, but it kinda sucks that the same 2-3 comics are on the front page pretty much everyday.

Well tbh, it is a problem if a comic drops out randomly of the popular section if it's meant to be there, that means there's some hijinks going on in the code etc.

Also it's annoying because you're missing on the exposure of that time.

It's not like I'm losing sleep over this, I just find it mildly irritating.

I believe it takes a while for the app and website to refresh and update.

It also depends on the views and likes your update gets.

Yeah, I notice when I upload multiple times a day I would kick myself out of the popular section. It's really frustrating especially since I don't get in there very much (even less now than before)

Its like Game of Thrones on this site. Then again, Webtoons I hear next door brings guns to the knife fight, so we all lose if we slip and sit on a banana over there. XD

It's algorithm based, right? So if you post once, and all your regular fans show up, give likes etc, get you into popular. Then you update again. Maybe some fans assume it's the same update they just saw, maybe they only check the app once a day, maybe they know you'll update again later so they hold off--they don't come out as strong for the second one. So your views come from new people who are less likely to Heart, the ratio drops, you fall out of popular.

I don't have any greater insight into the algorithm than anyone else but it makes sense to me?

Remember, they announced that the algorithm is in play but they "curate" these categories now.

Not to suggest anything insidious or conspiracy based but there doesn't HAVE to be a mathematics driven reason for front page movement now.

It is still algorithm based. I have 3 comics. When it updates, it gets directly to popular after 8-12 hours of update. A typical update instantly gets 20k+ views and 1k+ likes, ranking it higher among other comics.

@Kura @Mari when you update a comic it vanishes from popular for the first hour after the update. This happens to all comics that update and has been a thing for years. I can only assume it is that way to prevent comics from updating every hour of the day or more to force good stats and game the algorithm.

Basically: updating more than once a day is unlikely to do you any good. You would earn more out of the algorithm if you saved that update and put it up as close to 24 hours after your latest update as possible, since 24 hours is the time by which your comic would fall off popular due to your latest update having passed too long ago.

If you update daily, and want to make the most out of the popular page and algorithm, make sure you update around the same time each day.

I'm aware and know it happens, still doesn't keep me from being frustrated since I update 1 - 2 times a day with that being the pace I am COMFORTABLE working at.

Well that sucks. I had originally intended to publish the first 3 episodes of my series spread through out a day (morning, afternoon, night) to see which one would do the best and then stick with that time frame going forward for the subsequent episodes.

Basically my way of trying to find out the optimal time for me to post my updates. Guess I'll have to rethink that approach now.

That plan still works, @sprite_1ww. Publish Episode 1 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon of the next day, and 3 in the evening of the third day. You would want to be waiting at least 24 hours between updates, and your way you do that with a little extra. By scheduling updates, you can automate the process so that you need not be online or even awake when you want the next update to occur.

That would mess things up though if for example, i wanted to measure the amount of exposure on a Friday specifically vs any other day of the week

Okay, comparing on specific days is a separate issue. You'll want to perform those test posts on separate weeks anyway. If you post three times on a Friday and go by just that data, a single rogue variable can throw off your entire data set. That Friday might be a holiday or something which causes odd results, and you may not even be aware that the variable exists.
