Collections weren't really working out for us. We tried having them in the featured banner section to try and showcase more creators at once, then we migrated it to the second tier on the front page. Eventually, the time it took to curate and the real estate we had to dedicate towards them weren't really getting that much engagement.
We are taking collections down for now and trying to see if there's a better approach to it - we're not giving up on them, we just want to do it right and make it useful again.
When I think about collections and how we tried building them around certain themes, holidays, art styles, etc, it became pretty evident how restricting focusing on a series level was. This is especially true when looking at the overall, big picture data. Think about this way, the average reader on Tapastic is subscribed to 13 series, but what exactly are those 13 series? Many of them span across multiple genres, styles, themes, tones, showcasing that readers are after a very diverse content line-up.
So maybe we should switch to focusing less on series and more towards episodes. Have collections of episodes that mix together multiple series from multiple genres but all have some tonal similarities. This is a bad example, but having something like The Best Fight Scenes on Tapastic, we could focus on showcasing specific episodes from series that might not even be action oriented. Like having one where a husband and wife get into a verbal fight or something. This sort of opens up what we can do a lot more - maybe this is the correct approach? Maybe not. Thanks for the suggestion!
