Tell Me About Your Favorite Story You've Done

Tell me about your favorite novel/comic that you've written and why you love it. *This is not a promotion thread so please no links. If you want to check out someone's work, DM them.

I have two favorite stories. The first one is called "Jonah" which I'm reworking into novel form. It's about an immortal woman writing a letter to her late husband telling her life story and how she met her main love interest. I like it because the story has a lot of heart in it and it's a story where the female lead is a supernatural being. *Those types of stories are in the minority.

The story is called "Just Call the Sitter." It's a satire of the superhero genre and ultimately a love letter to self-insert superhero fanfiction out there. The MC is an average girl who accidentally saved the daughter of their universe's Wonder Woman and Captain America and becomes the go-to babysitter for the superpowered community. It's told in first person and there are a lot of veiled references so you can just sit back and laugh. I also really like the story because the superheroes' plots are in the background. Normally in this genre, the whole story focuses in on X plotline. The supes could be fighting an alien invasion and her biggest problem could be fixing the froyo machine. Ultimately it just makes me happy to read and happy about how easy it is to write.

The reason I love it so much being probably stemming from the fact I feel like I actually feel like I know what I'm doing. It started planning it out as a fun way to fill time by giving a manga I never got to really start in highschool an proper ending, but sometime in the planning stage I got really pumped to see where I go and what I could really do with story.

By simple description, it seems like a pretty basic story about a young girl who just moved back to her home country and is quickly given powers and the responsibility of fight an evil overlord with big bad plans while trying to survive highschool and keep her life together. There's a lot more to it all beneath the surface. I put plenty of thought I to each character; there stories and convictions. The settings, the moments, the battles, the conflicts and so much more.

I didn't expect to get as invested as I did but right now I'm 36 chapters in and having a blast. My parents used to monitor my work in high school but their mostly to busy to care about this one so I'm pretty free to get as crazy as I want without feeling I have to prove something with my writing and I guess that contributes a big reason to why I love this story so much.

I hope other writers get to experience this much love for something they're creating.

My comic is called Nina, I actually like a lot of the ideas I have for my past works but this one is actually special to me. Although the initial idea of the story is more about my culture and the cultures I grow up around, I decided it was too niche and plus I didn't want to name the characters something people can't really read. So I went the simple route and erased that cultural aesthetic but it still does influence the world building in my writings.

Compared to the current idea of Nina getting sent to another world because of a traumatic event, in the initial concept she was actually supposed to be a sick child that was going to die in a few years, an evil spirit bring her to his realm and promised to stay with her until she dies. He was supposed to be an ancient child spirit that consumes the lives of other children. I scratched that idea because I couldn't write it since I don't believe I can ever do it justice for people who suffers chronic immune conditions, plus the story doesn't actually end well and that might very well be the biggest reason why I change it.

So here we are, where Nina is a girl who just wants to be happy. Happiness is subjective so it's easier to write and relate to. I am happy I made this decision because I love the story more and I want people to see it end the way I intend for it to end.

This concept sounds amazing and like a lot of fun!

My favorite story is 'technically' a space epic that has yet to be written and isn't even fully fleshed out yet, so it probably doesn't really count. But it stems from some of my earliest story ideas. I think the concept is fairly original and the scope is crazy huge with a plot twist that I doubt many will see coming. Also, I just abso-freaking-lutely love space.... so there's that.

My current favorite, I guess, would be my work in progress "NPC Academy" (which will hopefully begin posting on Tapas within the next 2 months!). It's like magic school crossed with a Wreck It Ralph style hub world where all the non-player characters from classic fantasy (video game) worlds live. It's a progression story, following a weak and self-conscious little slime monster as he uncovers the secrets of his own world, fights against discrimination, and grows to become a hero and leader himself (but much more of a slow-burn than many of the popular leveling-up stories I've seen on Tapas...). I love that I'm approaching it from a more care-free, just for fun perspective than the other novels I've written so far (with no intentions to query for traditional publishing). It's a fun world(s) to explore with deep history and interesting to play with several twists and turns.

Thanks! The concept gets wilder. The MC gets the seed money to start her babysitting company from their universe's Iron Man and her father-in-law is their Batman.

Oh just call the sitter sounds like so much fun, can’t wait for that!
I think my current favorite is the comic I’m currently working on, it still doesn’t have a title but it’s basically a bedtime story a guy is telling his niece about a boy who got lost in some very suspicious woods and the definitely human girl who lives there.

I made one webtoon comic in August 2020 called "Cloud Nine."
I made it for a Webtoon short story contest back then.
It's about a kid living with his abusive father. He then couldn't trust himself to make friends, fearing he'd be abusive to them too. There are only 4 episodes.

Honestly, I wasn't very proud of how the story flowed. But I'm proud of myself for finishing. I also noticed my art progress throughout the 4 episodes.

My favorite written work, other than my slam poetry, is actually a sentimental short story I wrote about a woman remembering the married man she had an affair with. It's adult, nuanced, and just seems beautiful to me, even though I never placed it. I read it now and then and think "How could this have ever come from me! 🤣🤣🤣

I've only completed two novels, and of the two, Elf Noir, which I am serializing here on tapas, is my favorite. The first person, noir style is different from my normal writing style, and it's been super fun to write.

My favorite work in progress is a fantasy BL romance between a fire mage prince and a former military officer with a very young daughter snowed in at a high mountain pass Inn, surrounded by deadly monsters of winter cold. I think I may finish that one next and serialize it here also, since M/M romance is popular on this site.
