I can completely relate with the not feeling ... 100% in the current days. On that same note, I debated posting in this thread since I currently feel rather sickened by my own work - I create, I try to share, and it's just met with silence, for years. With that awkward segway I've made a lot of characters and couples over the years - some with important minor characters, and some more fleshed out than others.
Will and Crow are by far my most fleshed out characters in that I feel like I can really understand their desires, motives, and frustrations. One way I've gone about this, and should continue doing really, is by answering questions as them as if they're being interviewed. It's known as a "Character Development Exercise"- and I'm not sure if many other people practice it...
I'm just that awkward blob that's like, here I know my characters because I've thought about some odd situations and stuff for them - and some are things that wouldn't come up in the story - at least not obviously. Some are things I've thought of at the start of the story - like the central part of the plot of who kills one of my characters, who's a dead angel who can't remember who killed him - that was something figured out at the very initial forefront of the story - so the entire story was just crafting a way for the reader to piece it together, and not too far outpace the characters
. . . . . . . . That made sense right?
So anyway - one of the CDE's involved me asking Crow about health.
Does healthy eating matter to you?
Crow
“Of course.” He nodded with finality. After a few minutes of silence, he groaned, realizing he had to elaborate. “Well, hey, I’m a knight- well even if i I wasn’t- I’d eat healthy. I want my partner and friends to eat good, too. It’s why I cook everything I eat. I can’t trust if people have added too much salt or sugar, or butter, or geeze, oil. Too much butter, oil…. things just get soggy. But a good sugary bread,” he paused a moment to brush the corner of his lip. “Besides, the healthier you eat, the better your body is, and that just means I’m all the more sexy for Will to look at. And, I gotta admit, I think he’s turned on by my sexy-healthy ass.”
: I should do this question again but maybe see if the character can answer it about the people they know?
Though I think Crow covers that, too...
