"Thanks" posts- Nice or Nuisance?

Hi, i'm still a little new to the site so I'm unfamiliar with some site customs. One of those things are the "thanks" posts people do when someone subscribes to their comic. What is the majority opinion when it comes to these posts, are they viewed positively or negatively?
I guess my personal opinion is that I haven't made these posts to other people's walls because it comes across as advertising in someone else's space. I just want to know what other people think!

Some people love it, some people hate it. If you are planning on doing one, check the user's wall first to see if there are any there and how they react to them.

I personally like them. I actually have been missing them 'cause creators aren't posting like they used to.

i do one, and typically get positive feedback (or none at all, i think more and more ppl are using mobile exclusively and never see it). i tend to caption the image w smth like 'youre awesome' and make it feel personal - i mean, it kinda is. its a direct statement of gratitude, and a welcome.

that said, if youre worried abt coming off as self promoing, you could post the message privately. ig this could be a good idea if their reading list is hidden.

My question is "why is it gotta be a nuisance" to thank someone for taking the time out of their life to read your comic? I appreciate people who read mine; of all the comics to read and things to do- they chose to read mine.

Not being argumentative about it- i just dont get it.

personally i think it is just polite to thank subscribers and what better way than to give a token of art that nobody else see's but subs.

I just thought it was the "polite" thing to do as well, but I don't have a piece of art ready for the thank-you post. I just end up leaving a basic message hoping they're enjoying the comic, so it never felt like self-promotion to me.

(I'm also of the opinion that if you're showing people free art, it's not self-promo; your subscribers probably liked your comic or art style enough to subscribe, so getting more art from you is a good thing)

It's like what I said above. Intended or not, it's advertising in someone else's space. And to add to that, from what I observe people don't typically draw a new image for their thank you posts but rather use the same image every time. Maybe it would be different if it was a new image every time?

I'm playing devil's advocate here when I say this. Currently I just prefer not to post these images because I don't want to be a bother. But I'm ambivelant towards these thank you posts on mine and other people's walls. It is certainly and interesting custom!

I like them, but I hate them.

I LIKE them because I like getting thanks and little pictures on my wall.

I HATE them because there is no way to control or pin or really organize your wall. So any important announcement posts you make, such as hiatus, convention announcements or other things, get quickly pushed down by 'thx for sub HUGE PICTURE' posts.

This loathing came from me just having exceptionally bad years when it comes to family members and pets dying. Or my health acting up and making me bedridden. So when I go on hiatus to take a break to deal with death or my health I'll make an announcement as such. That's the time I usually look around for new comics to read and sub to. Which would fill my wall with 'THX' posts, push my announcement down and then get me people posting on my wall, pming me or finding me on other forms of social media with "WHY ARE YOU NOT UPDATING. UPDATE NOW' 'WHERE IS THIS WEEKS COMICS???' 'STOP BEING LAZY' "WHERE IS THE UPDATE???' 'ARE YOU STILL MAKING THIS COMIC??????????' harassment. Which I obviously don't need in my life at that moment in time considering the circumstances.

If it happen just once, I would still be pissed, but it's been happening EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. So it makes me absolutly livid. It's just not acceptable.

So to prevent it I've just been deleting them as soon as I get them, or reading comics on other sites so that my wall does not get filled with the thanks posts.

I used to post them, but now it's just too hard to keep up. I don't mind them if they show up on my wall. Some people don't like it when you post, so do so at your own risk I guess...

Hi... I'm another immigrant from Inkblazers/Mangamagazine and have been somewhat a quiet reader observing things going on. Admittedly I find it a little bit of a pet peeve when people copy and paste the same "Thank you for faving my comic!" comments on every of their readers' profiles (it just doesn't feel like genuine gratitude) but at least it's not some obvious spam or treating it their readers' pages as billboards. I wanted to ask if any of you actually really liked or appreciated the "Thanks for subbing" Thing that so many people do. Do you feel you are more loyal to a comic that posts such an image on your wall, or do you really not care? I'm curious.

I think it's sweet! I don't send them out myself, but I don't mind them.

I'll generally reply to them and leave them up for a day. But I delete the posts after a while because I want my readers to be able to see my updates easier. If there was a way for me to "pin" a post to the top of my page I probably wouldn't delete anything.

Kura, that's a really good point. posting public thanks may push down important anouncements. ¿What is your opinion about a private message thanking you?

I tend to make group "thank you" posts direct to all the subscribers once in a while, expecially when I have a sudden large number of them (like, 8 people in a night wooohooo). I myself don't like too much the personal message, so I follow my guts and do what I'd like to receive

I did post a thanks image to my subscribers, thinking it would be a nice gesture. After reading this topic, I'm considering following it up with a "Sorry I cluttered up your wall" image.

Nice! I personally use them (just a small "Thanks for subscribing to my web comic!" text post on their wall), but I certainly love to receive them. It makes me feel important as a reader, like the creator notices me and cares enough about me to thank me personally (even if the message is standard).
I can see how people can find this annoying- I already see people complaining about "thanks" posts like these- but I really enjoy the creative posts. It makes me feel a little insecure that I didn't make one before going on Tapas! Sure, they take up space on the dashboard and can be pesky if you don't want people to know what comics you're subscribed to (I personally don't have this problem yet, I proudly display my library to everyone)- but they are also very nice to look at and it makes me feel like the creator put extra effort into thanking me than a simple "thank you for subscribing" text post. It'd be nice if there was a way to make these posts private instead of only having the option of screenshotting the post to save it on your computer and then deleting it if you want to save the post without having it on your board, but I currently don't have this problem and I'm sure Tapas can add this in another update.
It takes a lot of spare time to reach out to subscribers (I probably wouldn't have been able to thank all of them so far had my comic became an overnight success), so even the smallest gesture makes me feel valued. Some creators take their subscriber count for granted and it hurts to see. I'm so happy that I even have people reading my comic at all, better yet, ten actual people with their own lives. I can see value in this, especially with my ADD. The fact that people put time and energy into reading my comic at all when they could put their attention to something like playing Pokemon or drawing means a lot to me.

I didn't expect this post to get sappy but, tdlr; "Thanks" posts (even, or especially, the small ones) can make someone's day and make them feel like the creator sees them as a person instead of a number.

I love to see the thanks pages and banners. Some are animated and makes me wonder how they done it and others are hilarious

I always try to post a 'thanks' as I see it as adding to the creator/reader relationship. I really want every single person who reads our comic to know we truly appreciate them and they're not just a number to us.

It also gives me a chance to post animations I can't seem to stop working on...
