The "Book' Section

I noticed the "Book" section which I think is relatively new, then again haven't looked in a while.

And I though, hot dang, that's exactly what I need. That's the kind of style I need to be uploading too, especially if it allows me to do both writing and illustrations. So I tried to see if there wasn't something in the editing section to move it from "Comic" to "Book" and unfortunately I didn't find anything.

I thought, well maybe its only for newly published series, so I went to that and, during my little skirmish I found nothing.

So assuming I'm not blind, what is this all about? This seems like a pretty good way to move to something that better fits the style of my work but with seemingly no way to actually get there. At least not what I can tell. I'm not sure if this is for something completely different from Tapastic or what.

I merely saw it and realized that, this was a good opportunity to post in a place more keen to my style.

I got just as excited as you and hit the Publish button to see if I can join the fun, but after some investigating I found out that for now, it's only a few selected people who are allowed to publish books. It's not open to everyone, more about that here:

Right now the book section is not open to posting from the public. I think you can pitch your concept to Tapas, but most of the books there are people they contacted or deals they arranged.

I really love the books section on the desktop version. In fact I love everything about the new desktop layout. Much more professional. But my favorite is the book section. Now if I want to read again the books on my reading list using desktop [which I hate for this reason --->] I didn't have to open my profile and searching for the books from my list lol.

Whoever design the website, kudos to you.

If I wanna read more than 3 chapters I have to download the ap? What bullshittery is this? You gonna push it on the desktop then make it available to read on the ****ing desktop.

That said, it's hopefully still in progress (though it was a bad choice to half ass release it imo)

Don't get me wrong though, I look forward to if it turns out to be more than a cock block.

Thanks for the feedback. I too can't wait until the new system is implemented fully. And I also hope that the whole "app" thing isn't going to be part of it either. I enjoy reading series right on the desktop.

Err, the whole 'need to use app' is because for books, most of them use a key. So you need to unlock the chapter using the key from the app. Well yeah kind of tedious but that's the way it's. I myself sometimes forget that I have to unlock the chapter first when I want to use the desktop.

It's not only for the books though, if you read any premium comic, you are gonna need to use the key to unlock them first before reading them on desktop.

You can try Bluestack if you didn't have smartphone. It works well when I try it.

I got SO excited when I saw this because I've been working on my NaNoWriMo book for a while. I remember knews about them adding a publishing option in the future, and I figured I'd just share it on here when its time. So when I saw the books section I got excited for nothing.

I do like the idea of books coming to Tapas but for now I'm two steps away from being peeved at having to get keys to unlock the next chapter. So, I'm going to stay away from the books section for a bit. I'd hate to find a really good story and not be able to keep reading it.

That's not really a good enough excuse, they gonna have it on the website like that they should make it completely accessible on the website.

I'm completely aware of the key system for their books and why it's in place, I also do I have an issue with it. However they should NOT push this system onto the desktop version unless users are actually able to use this system ON the desktop version without the phone ap or third party software such as blue stacks.

As in, if you can't buy keys ON the desktop versions, don't direct us to series that NEED keys to read. Keep those to platforms you can actually read them on.

Well it's the mobile app time, I means most reading website nowadays is going mobile although they still have the browser version on. And usually they are more supporting on mobile app it can't be helped.

Example : I have another reading app on my phone, they have coins and ticket systems for unlocking comic and the ticket system only works on mobile app. Sounds unfair for people who can't use mobile app? Well, that's their policy and I respect that. And if you go to their website they have an ad telling you that if you install their app you will get free 10 coins so yeah, it's mobile app time, it can't be helped.

So well, Tapas isn't the only one that seems to encouraging their user to use mobile app, it's common for reading app, at least that's for me.

But of course that doesn't mean your opinion is wrong no. I just saying that I think the whole key on mobile app is actually normal. Because I have use other reading app and most of them do have system that only works on mobile app [like the key on Tapas and ticket on other app]

You means you never see Edgar Allan Poe published [digitally] everywhere before? The story is classic, I highly recommended it to everyone. But well, there is already a lot that publish his books on Google play Book, like :

The price varying but I say the one on Tapas is pretty cheap though, I means for a books that is written by dead people, it sure seems that so many living people are still publishing his works everywhere right?

I've read Poe and am aware his works can be found elsewhere online, for free no less.
As I am aware dead people still have their works published everywhere...
I'm just wondering if this doesn't fall into the category of "Impersonation" in the content and community guidelines of this specific site...I could've sworn this was a platform for original content, not posting the works of Poe or Hawthorne or any number of Authors, with locked content.
Am I confused? Maybe I'm confused. And who's collecting this revenue for the locked content? Who's account is that, because it sure isn't the Divine Edgar.

Well, I don't know who get the money, but it's the same as the one on Google Play Books right? Who get the money? I dunno. And I realized that his works is already on internet for free. I means I already read the comments on this particular books where people say 'hey this book is free so don't bought it, just browse it on internet' and that kind of triggering me because I already see his works on everywhere on Google Play Books and some of them are paid but when you put it on Tapas someone just have to be mad about that and told people to not buy it.
But that's not the case, just want to tell you why I am kind of edgy on my reply before.

Maybe if the staff read this hopefully they can shed a light on this matters? But again I don't see what's wrong with having Poe works as locked content on Tapas.

It just seems a little suspect. So am I to understand if an author's dead people can just upload their content here to this specific platform for original content and collect coins on someone else's work? Oh as long as they make the account name the author's name. Then it's safe I guess. Copacetic. So this will just become a nice place to read the classics and not original content? There's something wrong with that picture.
Google play and other platforms aside, This is about Tapastic/Tapas.
It's just an iffy precedent. If these people have the proper permission, fine. I'm just concerned people can just upload someone else's work and collect money, no matter how much or how little money it actually is.

I can see your POV. But we are talking about Books section, people need to be approved/invited before they can publish there so I am sure the staff won't let 'hey I am not Poe but I want to publish Poe story here so I can collect the revenue' slipped by.

And the price is actually really cheap. I mean compared to the other books it's actually really cheap so that's why I think whoever have the revenue actually might not make much anyway. [which actually didn't ok... but this is special case I guess? ._. ]

Posting work that doesn't have prior consent from the author is already a questionable point even on something where it might belong to Public Domain. But then again something on Public Domain is intended to be read for free. This of course includes the works of Edgar Allen Poe.

I suppose on technical terms, there's no issue with actually uploading those kind of stories. They are in Public Domain and its like, they are already free, who necessarily cares where they are posted.

But if these works are actually getting money/coins or some kind of payment from those who post it on Tapastic, that's kind of...insulting. Even if its not a lot of money, it is still a profit of some sort. A profit given to someone who has done nothing to earn it, on a piece of work that can literally be read for free.

It is a scam in the end and I'd hope Tapastic would be smart enough to recognize that.

Now in, grudging fairness, something under "Public Domain" basically means it can be used freely. This also means that it can be used by anyone to make a profit. There's no law, as far as I know, where someone can't take a public domain work and put a price to it. It's just up to the buyer to see past the scam and make the correct choice.

So in the end, someone making money off of something like Poe's work isn't legally wrong but it is very morally questionable and it really doesn't put Tapastic in a positive light. Mind you, I wouldn't necessarily mind reading something like Poe's works or Dracula on here. Reading the classics is fun but nobody should be able to make a quick buck on something that is free.

It can't be stopped everywhere but Tapas really should have the common sense to keep its users from making unnecessary cash. It's a scam and nobody should be tricked by it.
