Okay, here comes an elevator pitch for a television sitcom that I wrote several years back. I gave it away to the public already. Anyone is welcome to use it for anything: comic, play, novel, whatever.
We've got one man and one woman. The man writes romance novels for a living. I mean really really sappy harlequin romance books, but he's a true believer in romance and he makes a decent living at it. One of his books, his favorite, has been optioned for a motion picture. He receives a copy of the script, and he's horrified to see that it's been transformed into a screwball comedy.
The woman is the producer who purchase the movie rights from his agent. Her background is that she became well known as a stand up comedian with a very raunchy act. She transitioned his style into a movie career where she oversees the creation of movies filled with sex and fart jokes. She bought the book because she thought that it was a brilliant parody of love stories, not something serious. She gave up on true romance back when she was an adolescent and never looked back.
Each of these individuals is a genius in a different style of comedy. He's clever in a very dry and witty way. She's foul mouthed and crude. After they meet and fail to reach a compromise, he decides that he's going to change her by showing her how awesome and inspiring love can be -- and thus win his story back.
The name of the show is Rom Com.
