The tapas 'new look' poll

I was just about to ask what they changed as I'm pretty new on the platform before realizing the uncanny similarity it suddenly had with webtoons. Like just why would you want to look like your competitor??? It had more creator friendly customization, now it's just gone?

I find the new look really hard to navigate and harsh on my eyes with everything in white and the bars jumping up and down. And the Comics page having different size pictures makes it very difficult to find anything.

I haven't found anything to show what I have read already, continue doesn't actually take you to the next page but to the one you saw last.

And the fact there was no warning or news of this chance happening would indicate that Tapas doesn't care about the users.

This whole thing just looks and feels like a cheap and poorly made Webtoon copy.

Ahh, I see Tapas is going for the Webtoon white palette, the Webtoon front page layout and the Webtoon comic page layout, very unique indeed...

Hate to see the endless scroll gone on desktop for bingeing series, same with the permanent sidebar for looking through episodes (you can bring it up by scrolling to the bottom and toggling it, but it requires more work) and same with 'extra button/link' on all pages (helping to direct to my patreon, as well as comic banners on each page, also helping to direct to my patreon.

It's one thing to put Tapas exclusive comics as number one priority on a site (we get it, you need to make money), but to minimise design to a point where there are less places for everyone else to promote their patreons, kofis, gumroads, etc? That hurts.

There have been some upcoming in the pipeline around the forum.
And some have giving suggestions on how to improve the site as we knew it.
But that doesn't matter when you total redesign.

Endless scroll is made solely for mobile(unless it's like Tumblr where your dashboard has large posts and you can still see blogs by page), which doesn't explain AT ALL why push it into Desktop other than laziness and conforming to trends. Notebooks and desktops haven't disappeared entirely yet, I have no idea why they couldn't just replace the front page organization with the new one and keep it as is. Hhhhhhhh

What about Endless scroll, when it will load new page only after scrolling at end and scrolling more over end of page? This one thing is cca OK in webtoon app, and it would be OK on desktop too (yes, it's applicable). But how it was, it was not best before, it was buggy, and it was heavy on resources, but now, now it's less buggy (page is not jumping) for example, but that controll from user is like, I need to do 3 milion clicks, scroll 2 kilometers on mouse wheel, and then, we will show you what you want to see.

Before around 30 mins ago I didn't even know there was a forum. Suddenly everything chanced when I opened a new page and I found the forum while trying to find the newsfeed to see if it would tell me what happened.

Just woke up to this, and I'm like "NO"

I liked whenever I clicked on a webcomic- you would be instantly transported to the latest page- not drab boring boxes like Webtoon's setup. My banner at the top that I spent HOURS trying to make is now GONE- replaced by one of my avator icons for a particular chapter...the whole new setup is so DRAB and BORING AF.

Open Library > Right Click > Open in New tab, wash, rinse, repeat. Welcome to Webtapastoons. Horse whip the designers, tar and feather them and ride them out on a rail to a waiting ship where they're keel hauled and their tattered remains are drawn and quartered before being fed to the dogs...

I'm honestly surprised how many don't like the new layout because I absolutely LOVE IT.

It's clean, I'm not forced into a random episode when I click on a comic/book, but can choose from the list... What's not to love?

Also never been to Webtoons, so no idea how these two designs look compared to each other. I just know I prefer this clean look to the clunky old one any day. 🏻

What I like about it: They have a lot of comics/novels at the top on the front page so that more people have a chance in the sun. I also like that they moved the staff-picks to the top of the front page rather than the bottom; gives unknowns a better chance to shine. I previously couldn't even see the collection Rags to Riches on desktop which was kind of a big deal since my story is apart of it. XD I'm glad I can see it now.

What I don't like about it: It seems like the staff-picks for novels have either been removed entirely or combined with comic staff-picks which sucks. I doubt a novel will make it on there very often if they decided to combine the two sections and it will make it that much harder for talented writers to get noticed. I'm not particularly fond of how they got rid of banners, either, and the front page layout is a little bit messy.

There's some good ideas there, they just need to be cleaned up, I think.

Normally I really like when sites make updates but it kinda feels like all the personality got sucked out? And all the features that separated it from webtoons seem to have gone with it?

I like that they made the overall look cleaner on the front page but I'm kinda sad they took the banner feature away for all comics, it kinda felt like the only other extra way to advertise your comic.

I am not okay with this. It was confusing to figure out and the banner is gone. I'm scared that new creators are going to suffer for this and its just not as attracting as it was before. It's like it was murdered and replaced by an imposter.

No one who continuously read any volume of series on a large screen on the previous site could possible love this train wreck...

And to add insult to injury, they're now flagging previously read comics as unread...

There seems to be a worrying growing trend of assuming everyone only uses mobile phones to access the internet and no other device. Forcing mobile-only designs onto all platforms makes my desktop and laptop look like they've discovered a crude website from the mid-90s. It also makes no sense for creators as I don't know anyone who can write, draw, scan, colour, edit etc a comic on a tiny phone screen.
