Me: I spent the day at the One Spark festival in Jacksonville, Florida.
Every other person: What's that?
Me: It's Jacksonville's biggest thing. You attended last year. You saw me writing a book about it.
Every other person: I don't remember.
Me: It used to be called the world's first and largest crowd sourcing festival. One Spark is now called an Ideafest.
Every other person: I don't know what any of those words mean.
Me: Think of it as a combination of a Maker Fair and Sharktank.
Every other person: I don't know what any of those words mean.
Me: Okay, inventors, business entrepreneurs, and charity starters are all showcasing their concepts. The most popular ideas get start up capital from investors. It's been going on for five years and been attended by half a million visitors.
Every other person: Yeah, I saw that on the news.
Me: Why did you ask me what it was?!
Every other person: I didn't know.
I have had this exact same conversation almost word for word several times a day for weeks. Family members and housemates have put me through this.
It's true though that I attended today and will be going back tomorrow between work shifts. Twenty-four hours from now, I will be able to finally focus on the First Writers Camp.
