Long story short, I'm going to be releasing a new comic with help from an artist. My protagonist has basically gone through an emotional roller coaster and just finished saving a little girl. My protagonist is crying while hugging her. Does the expression look okay?

It looks good to me! I personally would draw the eyebrows upside down just for a bit of a sadder look but the art and style look amazing!

You could make it more expressive. Maybe have her eyes closed, the mouth wider across her face, her nose flared, something else.

She looks angry-sad, as Kyupol has said. If that was your goal, you nailed it. However, if you were going for just plain sad-sad maybe close her eyes and mouth and adjust the eyebrows.

The foundations are there; she definitely looks sad. Depending on how sad you want her to be, I'd recommend scrunching her brows and closing her eyes to get a more fraught, agonized look. "Sad" can be tough to draw, so I typically mimic the desired expression in a mirror, or find an image online that echoes the depth of the sadness and reference the pitch and tilt of facial features. I hope that helps.
