Oh hey, this is actually what I was looking for! I forgot this part was in the FAQ and not in the rules. It's why I originally opted Fictional Skin out for the contest, and was confused for a sec about their requirements involving previously self-published series. Thanks for the clear up!
I sent them an email to ask if re-draws or reboots are ok, despite the self-publication existing, just to be sure.

I did a double take reading the updated FAQ. Wait wait. Just making sure I'm not somehow taking this wrong bc I'm an idiot hyped on adrenaline.

We are allowed to submit old comics from Discover.

We just have to reupload. We ARE allowed to keep the old one up. The only reason we have to reupload is to enter the contest itself. We don't have to change anything about it (unless we chose to revise to make it better).

Okay, this is definitely going to be confusing for readers, but now I'm contemplating improving on Hellish to enter this. 0__0 The only reason I didn't join was because I didn't want to abandon the characters and storyline I put so much thought into (I don't have time to do 2 comics). Ahhhh
Ahhhhhhh

You can enter using "Hellish" but you need to find a smart way to differentiate the two if you are intending to keep both of the same comics.

For us, we just decided to delete the old comic and start fresh. (I don't suggest for you to do this since you will start at zero and lose some of your audience).

Webtoons are just making sure you own 100% of your comic and that you didn't publish it anywhere else under a publisher, online or offline.

@soxu I think someone said earlier that if you resubmit the EXACT same comic WHILE leaving the original up, you need to change the name slightly.

@beta1042 oh okay, gotcha! I saw some people who were submitting their pre-existing discover comic (the exact same one), and they renamed the original copy as "[name of comic] PRECONTEST VERSION]

Would doing something like that be okay? It's just for the sake of differentiating, right?

@soxu That sounds good to me, but I'm also not affiliated with Webtoon in anyway and am not an expert on the rules, I'm just basing my info on what I've read in this thread. So you may want to email them and double check.

I saw a webtoon using the same name, but without caps, they already checked with LW staff before

alright i thought it's because i uploaded a little "thank you subs!" instead of a new episode that my ratings dropped slightly (which could be the case?) but seeing how everyone who got nothing to do with the contest AND have an ongoing webcomic long before the contest was a thing STILL got downvoted to oblivion regardless... i'm starting to have second thoughts, lol.
If only the staff at LW would be more responsive, i'd totally suggest they make it VISUALLY clear which comics are for the contest and which aren't (like put a star icon or something?) I get this is to avoid bullying the contestants, but us bystanders are unfairly getting the heat over nothing, haha!

[ETA] i have just added a note at the top of my description [NOT a contest entry!] juuust in case.... XDDD;;

It seems like Webtoon is not (yet?) promoting their entries on the front page. At least, I don´t see any webtoons there that would fit the criteria (they updated it, though, since the contest started). I mean, that is definitely good for all Creators (like me) that are entering the arena a few days later...

The thing about downvoting.... even if they separate contest entries from older comics, I imagine comics will still get down rated because contest entries are still competing with normal comics for visibility-whether labeled or not. If you comic has a better rating than any comic around you contest entry or not, it helps your comic, or atleast I imagine that is the mentallity of the people who are downrating everything.

I just wish people would not be so petty about these things. I'm starting to have alittle anxiety about updating my normal comic during the contest because of this, I fear it'll come out of the next 3 months looking pretty damaged XD

Does the rating really do something to your comic?
I understand that it's insulting when someone gives your comic 0 stars, but I thought the rating is just for readers to give non-comment feedback or to see how well a comic is received (although a low rating hardly stopped me from checking out a comic with an interesting thumbnail :))
But has the rating any influence on your ranking or such? I thought these things are only dictated by the likes and subs (and perhaps views).

I don't believe the rating itself hurts your rank. But 1-doubt readers know this, 2- if a low rating detracts people from subbing and reading your comic that will effect your ranking.

I think the drop in rating might affect those who are part of the Webtoons pledge program. If their rating drops, as beta1042 said above, their viewership and sub count might go down and they'll end up losing income.

We're thinking of entering our new series for most feels. It hasn't been out for that long. In fact it started in earnest just before the competition was announced and will be 6 episodes this weekend. We're thinking of asking our very small fan base what they think of us entering the competition. They've been really supportive so far so we wanted to get their opinion.

I'm thinking about not updating during the contest, because of this lol. But I'd normally update on Tapas

welp we put up a PSA asking for peeps thoughts and now we're getting downvoted like all hell. Won't lie. This kinda hurts.

This is off peak for us  Can't help but feel this is kinda personal
