G'day guys, so here is my dilemma:

I want to keep my stories for my comic S.U.B.O in their own respective episodes, since they are an individual story. So each episode will have 10 plus pages for that single story arc. I used to upload these as single page episodes, but found that I have has so many pages for each story that I would have something like 30 plus episodes for just 1 complete story and a half complete one.
This wouldn't be a problem if it was just one story arc, but since there are going to be so many, I want to make it so that you don't have to dig for pages to get to earlier/later episodes.

Now, the way I am wanting to go with just uploading an entire completed episode is going to affect how many people see the comic, since it does take time to make upward of 10 pages to release. Of course uploading a single page more regularly makes you more visible and shows others that you are indeed still working and have not disappeared from the internet.

So my compromise was to keep each story to it's single episode, BUT release a new page when I have it on it's own episode. When I have finished the next page, I would move the previous stand alone page and merge it with the single episode with the other completed pages.
This, in my mind, lets me keep everything organised to a single episode, while having my work be constantly updated for everyone to see. Yes, I will loose likes and comments on the single pages once I merge them, but that is something I can live with.

Thoughts? Is this a good idea or not? Did I even makes sense? Who knows... :confounded:

  • Yes, it is a good idea!
  • No, it is not!

Here is my comic for those that are interested. It is going through an overhaul, so it's a bit bare for now, but it's something I am getting closer to getting back to where I left off before the redo:

I don't have any personal experience to back this up, but on paper it sounds like a really clunky and undesirable way to resolve the issue. The loss of likes/comments/views alone would be enough to dissuade me from trying that.

A few thoughts on alternative methods to consider:

  • I've seen some people start a 2nd series for their series that has each chapter compiled in a way like you describe. So the 1st series is where you post your regular page-by-page updates and once a whole story is done, you add them to a single episode in the 2nd one to keep them tidy. Potentially the best of both worlds?

  • My current comic is going to be similar to what you're describing (I'm planning for each "season" to be a standalone one-shot that can be read in any sequence, but share the same world and characters so I don't want to make them each a separate series). The strategy for directing people around that I'm going to try is converting my 1st episode into a table of contents once season 2 starts. I'll have a blurb and icon about each season as well as what episode it starts on, so if people want to quickly hop to Season 3, for example, they know where to look. Tapas in particular is nice because from what I can tell the "Creator's Note" under an episode doesn't seem to have a length restriction and you can include clickable links, so I'm also going to provide a link there to the first episode of each season. No clue if this will be effective (since I'm just now coming to the end of S1) but gonna give it a try and can report back next year

I agree, it is not a perfect way of dealing with things.
In hind sight, I guess it doesn't really matter whether it is multiple stories in one series, since people will tend to start at the beginning and work their way through it all. So even if I have 1000 pages/episodes to a series, people are going to start at the beginning or where they last left off thanks to the bookmark.

I guess it is just my brain wanting to over organize everything that made me come to the previous conclusion. I appreciate the suggestions, @Rhonder. There is nothing worse then asking if the things I am doing is stupid to just get a yes or no with no alternatives or ways to improve!
Hope your idea about adding a content table works well for you!
