For those of you thinking of giving away physical merchandise of any kind, remember the international nature of Tapas. Mailing things outside of your country will be a lot more expensive than staying domestic. I did a giveaway once and didn't limit it to my country. I ended up spending $60 to send three books overseas! :scream:

I kind of want to do incentives, but I honestly don't think anyone would be interested, haha. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try? I dunno. XD

Certainly couldn't hurt!

I feel like people who would tip you anyways would tip you anyways (and maybe tip more / just be happy with the incentive)

Some people who wouldn't normally tip might decide to due to the incentives.

and people who flat out don't want to tip you wont anyways so it doesn't matter to them whether you have incentives or not xD

Here's a question for a tipping noob: should I bother offering incentives if I don't think anyone's going to tip? Or do you think I should go for it and hope for the best? (Seeing as the worst is just remaining the same). Do those of you who get tips regularly find it stressful to offer incentives? How much of that tip money do you actually see?

Again, noob here.

Yessss!!! Do it

No, through my website, or at conventions

Oh my god yes, this. Books in particular are HELLA EXPENSIVE to post, because they weigh a bunch!

I learned this the hard way too, which is why I restrict these things to bookmarks, postcards, stickers, and other small things that can be mailed internationally without it costing a fortune

Let me put it this way: I guarantee they can't tip for incentives if you have none

As @AmeliaFaulkner implied, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy if you don't try. I recommend putting in some effort, but keep your expectations low. That way when you get some response, you can be pleasantly surprised, but if nothing happens, then it's still okay because you were expecting that anyway. But it definitely doesn't hurt to try.

Just wanted to thank all of you for contributing your ideas for tipping incentives. It inspired me to come up with my own! I'm a writer (not an artist), so my prizes are more word-oriented. Here's what I'm doing:

10-99 Ink - Your name will go onto a shout-out page (the next episode), called Awesome Early Supporters. (The two people who supported me before this event will retroactively get on there, because they are Super Awesome!)

100-499 Ink - I will write a sentence about how fantastic you are on the Awesome Early Supporters page.

500-999 Ink - I will write an entire paragraph about your awesomeness! I'm no stranger to creative hyperbole, so I hope to make these entertaining.

1000-1999 Ink - I will write an entire bonus chapter, starring you! These bonus chapters will take place within the Forestfolk world, after the conclusion of the events in Siena. I will learn what kind of "character" you are, and then create a little scene with you in it. I think it'll be fun!

2000+ Ink - I have a few Siena bookmarks leftover from a promo I did awhile back. I will mail one to you, no matter where in the world you are (assuming you have a mailing address). I only have like three or four, but if there's enough demand, I'll get more printed.

Question for you experienced users! Is there a way to tag users in episodes like you can here in the forum? On my Inksgiving shout-out page, I'd like to link to a user if possible via tag (like you can on Wattpad). Is that possible?

I ask because it seems like of lame to just list their name there with no link at all. Users aren't going to go looking for their accounts, but they might click on them if it was clickable. Without the link, the benefit is almost nonexistent.

I used Vistaprint, so it's definitely not free. But they often have coupons for discounted pricing. I created the artwork myself, then submitted it to Vistaprint.com.

It depends on your rewards. This are my experiences:
When I started offering rewards it was rather stressful because first I offered a sketch commission for the highest tipper. However, I felt overwhelmed by the extra work (and uncertain payment since in some month the highest tipper could end up only tipping 50 Cents :scream:), so I ended up dropping the reward.
Later I started it again with rotating rewards (pack of sketches, link to a video, PSD...), every month I offered something different. It was again quite some effort to come up with something new and some month hardly anyone wanted it. So I dropped the scheme again.
This time I kept it simple: one illustration which is recycled from Patreon. The artwork is already done and sending it via email isn’t too hard and time consuming either (especially since I ask my audience to contact me first.)

Rewarding supporters definitely is worth the try. So don’t worry about offering anything, even if hardly anyone claims there reward.
But you should keep it simple and try to avoid as much extra work as possible.

About the money. It varies month to month. In my worst months I made about $1.50 in tips. In some of my best up to $30. There are folks who make even more (or less). It’s unpredictable and you shouldn’t bank on it. But it’s always nice pocket money and definitely worth asking for it

heh, this is probably what will happen to me for this event xD;; Sketch commissions for tiers of support, and a nice full body for the highest supporter... waiting for that to be like 10 ink LOL On one hand if that's the case I only have to do 1, on the other hand great value for them! Only doing this for the event though so shouldn't be toooooo bad.

Nothing

I literally have zero ink and not eligible for tipping.
Guess I will stay home when everyone having parties  (Well if it doesn't reach 15 mil maybe people like me are to blame)

I know you can unlock tipping for the sake of Inksgiving, but I don't know how and I prefer to do it that way. People most likely won't tip me and I don't wanna be given ink out of pity when I can't give one back; it's unfair.

Er
there may be some who want to give you ink―genuinely―but can't because of the requirements. I for one get disappointed when I can't tip my favorite authors because they haven't activated tipping. :c

I can't give inks back, I have nothing.
Or can I just give back all the inks they have given, so it will become balanced?

You can't give ink you get away―it gets turned into revenue for you to keep. Besides, giving the ink you got from supporters away kinda defeats the purpose
You can't watch ads where you are?
