Bonus coins can't be tipped. Otherwise Tapas would be losing money on them.

Now that I'm active again I'll get in on this emailing to get tips thing.

Yes, tipping is account based and not series based. So it will be applied to all of your series.

We hope to include a more detailed overview of tippers on the revenue dashboard in the future.

Yes, if you e-mail me at michaelson@tapasmedia.co with a request to activate tipping, you will receive a response when tipping has been activated.

Because it has to do with money being exchanged between readers and creators, we need to have at least one person verify that the accounts activating tipping are legit. With ad revenue it's a little bit more lenient since the money being exchanged is just between the advertisers and the creators with us, Tapastic as an intermediary to watch out for fraud.

The number of video ads we have available is dependent largely on the video ad providers and networks that we're currently using. The good news is that the more readers and creators watch video ads, the better we're able to partner with more ad networks to provide better paying and more frequent ads.

Unfortunately, since we're JUST starting out the video ad program, we're not always able to fill inventory. We hope to improve upon this as time goes on.

Yes, those are referred to as bonus coins and aren't eligible to be used for tipping.

I'm still working on adding as many creators per day as possible and am trying to set aside more time daily. We're seeing continued growth in the number of readers and creators tipping, as well as frequency of tips.

Once we've wrapped up this initial batch of requests, I'll be moving on to the second phase of the program which will be collecting feedback from both readers and creators to see how we can improve the feature as well as starting to share details about what's been working for some creators.

Also, if you have questions, please feel free to tag me so I'll be notified!

Thanks for the answers ! I have a new question ( @michaelson or someone else if it has already been answered) : is the tipping somehow taken into account in ad impressions ? I'm not talking about ad revenue, just ad impressions because I just noticed my impressions doubled since I have the tipping feature. I did remind my readers to disable adblock in my post-about-the-awesome-new-tipping-feature but... That can't be it. So I'm wondering...

It's likely a combination of you asking your fans to turn off adblock as well as counting the impressions from the comment section of the app. We serve a tiny ad unit there, although those ads payout very little. We are looking to improve that as well. Hope that clarifies things!

Tipping and ad impressions are separate things smiley

If I have created a tipping comic but not been added to the tipping program (yet, I know you're busy) is the best way to share said comic by emailing you?

@conbon100101 I think you just post the tipping comic as an update (new episode) to your existing comic series, instead of sending it to Michael. Probably best to do it after tipping has been activated for you.

Also! I've been randomly posting some stuff about tipping on our twitter: https://twitter.com/tapas_app/status/81860886602812620810

Good news! I only have 300 applications left to approve before I can start focusing on outreach (getting more people onto the tipping program), as well as checking in with the creators already onboard.

I'm still trying to brainstorm a clever name for our newsletter (which I will repost under the Super Science Club section) - can someone help me out? I like the idea of giving Tips about Tipping but I can't really make that pun sing.

Idk... snitches get stitches...

Okay, I'll admit it I was skeptical of this whole endeavour. Optimistic and hopeful of course, but skeptical. Maybe it's the cynic in me, but I just wasn't expecting much. How wrong I was.

This is a game changer in my opinion, and it's really revitalised my faith in this site as a leader in the field. The response I've received, a tiny little comic with less than 1000 subscribers, has surpassed all my expectations. And I've been tipping others like a madman. To think, that every update you read, you can just toss a couple of coins to the creator, it's so easy and addictive. It's like patreon without the commitment and the hassle, and best of all, immediate.

I can see this concept spreading out to all sites that host creative content, like Youtube for example.

Oh gosh! How cool would that be if YouTube took pointers from Tapas and webcomics XD

That would be interesting to see other platform apps try this out for content makers. I'd be happy to tip youtube creators with ad coins after watching their videos.

Have you thought about sharing your experience and thoughts about tipping with some of the webcomic editorials? I think they're hearing our mumblings about it but it'd be nice if they got more info and shared with the rest of the webcomic community.

Quick question @michaelson : is there a way to see who I've tipped and how much ? I'd like to tip the creators on my reading list more or less equally every month but I can't really keep track...
