What I used to do was, if I see something cool on the internet, I would flag it/ bookmark it and come back to it when I had more time. That way I wouldn't lose the stuff (I cleaned the list once I read it), and I would organize the amount of time I spent on sites. I found that if I discovered something cool, I would just keep looking through it until I had found every little secret link in every little secret post, but that would lead to hours and hours of searching and wasted time. When I flagged things, I no longer felt the need to look through them at the assurance that if I went back to look, 90% of the stuff would still be there. And if it wasn't, I didn't remember it fondly anyways.
If I let things stockpile up on Tapastic, I can go through it all at once, instead of having to wait for people to comment on things. While publishing comics on Tapastic, a semi social media work, I tend to avoid looking in my comments section when I need to post something and once I am done, I get off Tapastic right away and go work on the things that need to be done.
Although it is hard to not get off track, I went on a vacation and had no Wifi for those months, I really learned how to function without it, because there simply was no option to connect to it.
When I came back, I noticed that not much had changed. I think the most important thing to remember is that even if you leave the interactive internet people, they will almost always still be there. And if they aren't, there are always more people on the internet.
