Tropes and cliches that you dislike

Villainess, villainess, villain....(pretty much my entire homepage now). I used to like them, but now I am sick of this trope.
Leveling up like Solo Leveling from zero to hero....Same here. Loved them, but now sick of it. There are more. However, at the moment, these are the ones that are vividly present in my conscious mind. What about you? Which tropes and cliches do you dislike?

Me? OLD characters which is common on female tropes. This stands for Obsessive Love Disorder

Wow this feel like a personal attack on my novel, jk lol. For me, I dislike the trope of the female protagonist is a saint and everybody falls for her because of her innocence lol

I won't comment on any romance tropes because I'm guilty of using all of them, but I see in action comics a lot that the MC won't kill the villain at the end of the battle because it's morally the "right" thing to do.

If not kill, then maybe at least beat them until they're almost dead would be good.

No personal attack was intended xD I just got personally tired of them. That doesn’t mean others are. Tbh, I was tired of the idealistic characters like you mentioned. That’s why I was liking those villainess protagonists. But, now, the same pattern in every story is.... Y'know what I mean. I'd still love if the mc remained pure evil till the end ... something like Overlord (anime)

Yeah I know what you mean, I personally like grimdark type of stories, nothing is black and white and everyone has a dark side. But it might be just me being a horror fan and all haha

Not just you. I'm also a fan of horror and I do like grim dark stories. For an example, Melvina's Therapy, a webtoon that I really love. Plus, I'm a massive lovecraft fan.

Protagonism pretty much kills my enjoyment of whatever it is I'm consuming.
I'm not even talking the full blown mary sues, some light protagonism already ticks me off. When the MC is special from the start, it's already an uphill battle for me to get any enjoyment, but when the MC tricks you into thinking they're the everyman type just to turn into the chosen one halfway through the first arc is somehow even worse.

Definitely when everything is “reborn as a ____”. It’s so weird when it’s something like “reborn as a janitor for the Walmart in that small town in Idaho” because WHAT HAPPENED TO THE JANITOR WHEN YOU WERE “reborn” AS THEM? even worse when it’s a video game. I’ve seen atleast 3 comics that were ‘reborn as a video game character”

The being special and strong from the start without having to work for it, it's just the way they were born or they were chosen to be powerful. It's so ungratifying and boring to read. Unless maybe they somehow lose their power and have to start from the bottom, now that would be interesting to read. (And now my writer wheels are turning.)

Hey! Not a bad idea only if the readers don't presume it’s like the special mc case seeing him special on the first page. Will they care enough to read farther to see that the mc is gonna lose powers, they might get an interesting adventure.

Obvious plot armor devices that have been abused since ages ago, and that one gets me. Something easily killed x characters of equal strength but then magically doesnt kill MC for unknown reasons because broken laws of physics or something IDK...

Sometimes its like a hero gets put in a certain position to overcome the stronger enemy and it was great up until the point you realize, wait, if they were put in a position to not survive and did anyway, why not rewrite the story to NOT put the character in that position and dial it back some to save some credibility? OR have the hero die? Some of the best movies have the most impossible feats achieved through sacrifices made by the MC, but I guess most stories would rather not do that for the sake of fans IDK.

I personally don't roll my eyes at a lot of things, at it also depends on the genre on what I dislike. But for action media, I kinda dislike certain transformation if they don't convince me.

Like if the mc's absolute strongest form is a demon form or something and it's just black sclera and black goo with horns maybe, it kinda throws me off and makes me question why they didn't give the mc an actual demon form. Like a towering or fat monster with big claws, teeth, wings and all that stuff. Same goes for dragons and the like. Otherwise it just looks like the mc bought some lenses and makeshift horns from a party store or something. I kinda don't like humanoid gods either for that matter, especially if they represent an animal.
