Tropes and cliches that you dislike

I usually can't stand misplaced humor, like a sudden joke in the middle of a tense scene, in particular when it sounds too scripted. Marvel does that a lot. imo I think they even break character just so everyone gets their "haha snappy joke" moment, and that joke doesn't sound like anything anyone would say if it wasn't scripted.

That being said, I do think there are good examples of misplaced humor done right. They're just very rare. I think it has a lot to do with the general tone of the story, whether it's really a comedy or not, and also has a lot to do with how scripted it seems. I love it when gags feel like they could actually happen, the characters are still acting and speaking like themselves instead of suddenly sounding like a smartass

Love Triangles

I have made it my mission to write love stories without ever including love triangles. Love triangles are so messy and unrealistic. I'm not saying they can't happen in reality, but the day they find a way into one of my stories will be the day I've run out of ideas, or the world is ending. Relationships can have more than enough problems without bringing in extra people.

Yay want to live peaceful into your old age after you mentally fucked up your whole family? Sure knock yourself over, all is good. Still ongoing but I'm expecting another having your cake and eating it scenario.

OH! I was just thinking about this yesterday! The only one that angers me to an unreasonable level.Redemption arcs!

The problem with some modern redemption arcs is that they made the character do way too messed up things that crossed way too many lines......

And that the transition is not beleivable......also....agree that some need some punishment......

There are amazing redemption arcs.....but they take effort and skill to write.....

The only trope I truly dislike, and I would never buy into is, "He rapes her, she loves him!" (and any gender/sex/identity variations on the theme)

No he's not. He's like that because he got caught. He lost face. That's it. I can't see it any other way. He wouldn't regret shit if his plans fell into place. Which they kind of do.And that's the cake thing i'm talking about. Love the portrayal, author did an amazing job! Love it when authors do these. But him as a character, unforgivable to me.

I remember really liking Hametsu Flag which was the 1st villainess series I heard of. And then another comic with the same idea popped up on Tapas, then another and another... If you go on the most popular romance comics, you'll find about 10 titles with the word "villainess" on the 1st page. You'd think they'd try to switch up the titles a bit. I can't say they're bad 'cause I haven't read any all the way. I just think it's funny.

Since we are talking about that, I need to say this. Okay, this is an unpopular opinion, but I really didn’t like how Itachi's character was handled in Naruto. All along we knew he was a psychopath villain who killed his entire clan. Then, after all this episode, we learn that he did that because he was asked by Danjo. It was for the sake of the greater good of his village. Then, they kinda went on dragging this more and more with different attitudes. I don't really remember cause it’s been like 6-7 years I have last watched Naruto. But, once they tried to showcase it in a way that he was conveying the orders cause he thought it was for greater good, and another time they presented it like he was forced by Danjo to do it. A lot of things didn’t make sense, but they kinda showcased it in a way that he was a complete normal person empathy and sympathy..... and they made it turn out like he was the noblest guy in the house. He had deeper plans that goes till the end of the series. Yaaaa...........

Maybe this is more of a trope than a cliche, or perhaps both: Badass females. Hardboiled, physically strong, need-no-man types of women. Don't get me wrong, I used to love these; until badassery started becoming a whole personality than a trait. And with badassery comes beating up bad people, who are usually depicted as males.

The strong women in my life express their emotions instead of hiding them. Strong women cry. Strong women forgive. Strong women show vulnerability, and as a woman myself, I think that is strength. There are other means to show strong women than through physical prowess alone.

Oh I have a whole laundry list of sexist tropes that make me lose it.

It's a very small one, but I will rant a a screen for twenty minutes over a female character running from danger in heels. any regular human would just take off the heels, but no, the camera needs to be able to get a nice shot of her pushed up butt while she runs for her life.

In a similar vain there's what I call the "attractive scream" in movies, women who are in pain never grunt or yell or shout, they let out these breathy combinations of screaming and weeping that sound borderline (sorry for the vulgarity) orgasmic. maintain their feminine attractiveness while in horrible pain, I guess.

Oh, and the fact that if a woman is saving a male character in a movie, its always her kid or her brother or something. Women aren't allowed to save their male love interest.

Tropes I dislikes, or can say "BORING" is this:

1. Tsundere.
2. The perfect people.
3. Fan-service. People who loooves showing their boobs and butts to hentai viewers.
4. Love triangle.
5. In certain romance or yaoi manga, blackmail and abuse are considered a best way to show their love. ( AND I F******* HATE IT!! )
6. From a loser in the beginning to a god with unmatched power at the end.
7. With the POWER OF FRIENDSHIP!!!, nothing can stop the main character.
8. Main character ALWAYS win in every battle.
9. Characters won't express their feelings yet they kept it to themselves. Won't even speak up.

That part of stories where the main character sacrifices themself in some super obligatory, over the top dramatic fashion that makes them out like some sort of Christ figure, sometimes even with the Messiah imagery to boot. Especially when it's a middle aged Dad and he's doing the sacrifice so his young adult daughter/surrogate child can take up the mantle or whatever. (Some stories can do this extremely well, but it still irks me anyway.)

Hate that, but I hate it most of all when it happens at the climax of the story, then for about 2 minutes it acts like the protagonist is actually dead, but then we know they're gonna wake up coughing in a second and give us some sappy heroic moment that we really didn't need.

Some of my all-time favorite stories have done this, but I still hate how widespread it is.
