UK residence? Or on similar time zones?

French there, one hour difference with UK !
I'd like to visit a UK (and a USA one) convention. Just to see how it is in other countries ! Which one is the biggest, in UK ? The one that everyone will try to attend.

@SandraMJ - yea, the whole saving money thing is the biggest problem >_o I'm paying a mortgage so makes it extra fun! Perhaps if I kick it off on Patreon I might be able to actually do one of this a little quicker!!

@gateofselidor - Oooh, I originate from East Sussex, we are basically neighbours! That sounds like a hefty job @_@

Most my traffic comes from either the US or Russia, I have a couple of people who've kindly translated my comic into Russian so now and then I get big spikes haha! Hopefully if I can find more comic readers/artists, we can do our own comic chats on twitter and such that's my goal anyway.

@getsuart well I think we may all end up meeting at one of the conventions at some point!! You must get a few really cool ones in France though, I know there's a huge artistic community over there. Have you been to the Annecy animation festival? If not, I highly recommend you do, it's BRILLIANT! You get artists, animators and fans from all over the world to visit there. I met some of my favourite artists there, an experience I'd never forget! I think Thought Bubble and London MCM ones are pretty big. Some people have mentioned a couple in this thread which you could check out! thanks for the response!

One hour of difference c: and I know that feeling, all meetings on dA group chats I was in were held in the middle of the night ; v; and had a friend on another website, there was 6 hours of difference between us- so if we wanted to talk, he had to go online right after going back from school, and I had to stay up late

Yep, I'm from the good ol' U of K too.
I'm a little further North, between Durham and Newcastle. Bit of a no man's land place really.
I've also noticed the time differences becoming a problem. From big things, like missing out on live feeds, to smaller things like getting mixed up with the PST times when I post a new episode.

God alone knows if I'll ever be confident enough to do a Con like you guys are doing. I wish the best of luck with that.

@igneriss - Yea it really is so darn frustrating! There must be a community somewhere dedicated to people on our time zone but I've not found it yet! I've had to stay up late before too, but it's difficult when you have work or school the next day XD It's really fun if I want to talk to my friend from NZ >_o our mornings and evenings are literally swapped around because there's usually a 10-12 hour difference depending on if it's winter or summer!

@Peej Hi fellow UK-er! There seems to be a couple of people here who do do feeds, perhaps I might looking into doing something on twitter too, see what's happening with that #webcomicchat thing for the people on our time zones. Or for people who don't do twitter, there must be a way to do it here too XD

You can still come to a con even if you don't want to get a stall though! I might not get a stall straight away but still be fun to meet up with people!

I think the BIGGEST is the london MCM comic con ... never been .... it costs so much to get to London because of it damn inflation bubble!!! I'm hoping next year in May? ... if i can get decent rail fare (annoys me how expensive the trains are)

@TetheredComic Annecy and Angoulême are two big festivals for professionals, yup ! But Annecy costs a lot apparently, if you want to be there also as a profesional and have some meeting with them. A friend of mine goes there this year, I'll ask him how it was
In term on convention for both professional and amateur, we got Japan Expo. In november, there is Paris Comic Con, but it's all new, so I can't tell much about it.
Oh yeah, I remember Thought Bubble! MCM London must be harder to reach :o

I'm from Sweden too, like @AnnaLandin There are a handful of Swedish comics creators here that I know of. The most difficult time I have with the time difference is when I should post my comics. I don't want to post them when everyone in the US is asleep, but I also want to be awake myself and when I've tried to optimize it it has gone really bad, the time stamp on the comic has been in the middle of the night anyway

I'd love it if Tapastic made Tapastic creator T-shirts or something, to wear at cons, to find others from here. would that be something, @STAFF ?

I've also missed out on many live streams, but the good thing is, when I've been notified about a live stream from Tapastic Staff, and I put the event in my calendar it automatically puts it where it happens in my end of the world If there could be a calendar for all the live streams going on on Tapastic, I'd feel like I was at a con several times a week and I would love it

Yeah, like @yvettegustafsson, I've had a hard time deciding when to post my comics - and finally decided to schedule updates for 19.00 Swedish time, which ends up being 10 AM PST. It seems to coincide with a lot of people being fairly active online, but it also not so late that I have to stay up past bedtime to announce updates on Twitter and stuff.

Re: cons - I've been to a few, but only Swedish ones. Most of them have been Stockholm's International Comics Festival - aka SIS - which is a fairly small affair as cons go. I've also been to a more anime/manga-focused con in Uppsala. I didn't sell quite as well there as I did at SIS, but still managed to cover my costs. This fall, I'll be at Comic Con Stockholm, which is HUGE by Swedish con-standards. Crossing my fingers and hoping it goes well!

I know that there actually is a community for artists in my country, but it is said to have not-so-friendly atmosphere- just people mistaking constructive critism with offending someone. So no thank you ; v;

Though saying that, I do remember finding it difficult when I first started out, I wasn't use to constructive criticism because it felt like I was doing something wrong : P

I would really recommend Annecy if you can get there, I really want to go back one day. It can be expensive, but to save money I went as a student and also stayed at a camp site XD which is fine if you don't mind all the drunk students at 1am in the morning >_o;;

I am surprised France doesn't have more established comic cons, they have some AMAZING comic artists over there!

it can be smth like 20 quid for one day w/out the longass queueing. which aint rly worth it for me bc it tends to be a day of Pain (im autistic so the loud noise and new people everywhere - and all the huggers - is awful!)

shame tho, bc its the best way to find cheap comics

Ah yea dude, my sister is Aspergers and has huge issues with crowds too >_o also not fun when people don't see her coz she's in a wheelchair at hip height! XD The way we handle it is by sort of surrounding her (there is me, my mum, 2 sisters and 2 friends) who make a bit of a human wall to stop her from being bumped into : P and when she gets too stressed from all the people we all take a break in the corner or something! She has also reverted to barking at people in the way, and hissing at anyone who wants to hug her >.>

Kudos to you for going to the cons though, I know it can be super stressful in crowds at the best of times D:

There are a couple down South around Bournemouth, film and comic festivals and cons. Though I don't know about how busy they are as I've not been to one yet. I think my friend mentioned about one place where you could get a bunch of comics for super cheap just for one day, but from the sounds of it, that was SUPER busy! I will keep an eye out, or if I do make it to one of those, shall probably post about it to see if anyone local is going to go there : )
