True! I can understand that, people can have very different views on what they find wrong - but if this commentator is consistently commenting and making the creator uncomfortable, it's still worth the effort to tell them to knock it off (politely, that is.) If they get mad then oh well but you still made the point that it makes you uncomfortable, and can proceed to ignore/delete their comments if they refuse to tone it down. Being passive can only help for so long.
Yuck, I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I would be really uncomfortable if people were making pervy comments on my comic pages... like please keep those thoughts to yourselves, folks, I am not in the business of writing fap material. :I But it's even creepier when yours is centered around underaged characters.
Hopefully your PM won't fall of deaf ears, and maybe they'll cut it out or stop following you. If they become threatening, don't hesitate to bring it to staff's attention! A block button would certainly be nice for cases like this..
That sucks. Luckily I haven't had any weird/creepy comments about my female character Susan Graham from my comic Life of an Aspie1 yet, but if I did, I would have some choice words for the pervert. Like its fine you like her as a character, but having a sexual fetish for characters ESPECIALLY underage characters is just unnatural if not disgusting as well in my honest opinion.
I agree that there needs to be a block option on this site so creeps and trolls can't harass us creators in the future.
Well, I sent him a PM saying his comments make me uncomfortable even though he probably doesn't mean it like that and that's why I don't respond... but instead of answering that he started commenting on my comic page again saying I'm not being fair. I'm just gonna document and delete, but not report unless he says something actually harmful
Right now he's just being more annoying than threatening.
Thanks to everyone for your support through this!
Yeah, he's pretty prominent on the site for commenting on a wide variety of series with his "focus" on young females. I'm so sorry this is happening to you, though! Creators who reach out to their fans in polite request of respect should REALLY take heed. Particularly in regards to his commentary on underage characters, creators who find this kind of behaviour uncouth should directly, privately request he find another way to leave them feedback. I kind of don't think he's realising the potential harm in his words.
This is a tricky situation.
In the past, unless it's continuous troll spamming (like 50 or so comments in one page saying "Your the wosrt comic fag lol"), I tend to leave comments alone.
My reasoning for this is that although some comments may be creepy or distasteful, it doesn't really say much about me or my comic, but it does speak volumes on the person that wrote it.
Unfortunately, webcomics are a public thing and anyone can see them and leave a comment.
I don't know what this guy has been posting, but unless you start pandering to him, his comments will reflect on him and him alone.
ugh geez!! I'm sorry, what a jerky response!! >:// delete without engaging or ignoring altogether both seem pretty reasonable at this point, depending on what you're more comfy with or what'll cause you less stress. I would prob be doing the same thing you're doin tbh. DELETED, BRO.
(as an aside, this foolishness kinda seems like something that should be sent to staff in some way as a "hey!! this is why we need a block function!" if nothing else???? idk what would be the correct avenue for that tho)
Yah that person has been around forever it seems, very unsettling. Someone else mentioned what I assume is the same commenter in a thread a long while ago (it very well may have been you.) It sucks that it's happening to you, I can't imagine how the other creators must feel. I honestly wonder if its intentional or this person just lacks any and all self awareness.
Hope they lose interest and stop bugging you soon.
Ahh so I'm not the only one. I think it might be the same guy I'm thinking about..
I just ignore them. I didn't really care about them, until I noticed they just got weirder and weirder. I could post a super personal comic and he would just comment "nice tits", "I would love to see your tits" or "I love your lipstick".
My friend noticed it too and said he seemed rahter creepy and asked me why I can't block him. Welp, that option isn't there yet
I think sooner or later people would comment weird shit, so I just ignore it and keep drawing what I love ^^ but I think it's good u confronted him about it
i've heard of a couple people being basically stalked by "fans" who harass them ?? it's really disconcerting bcuz honestly that used to be so commonplace on webcomic sites and on here i guess it's a lot more friendly and less.. uncomfortable
i haven't had anyone consistently pestering me but i did get some comments a few weeks back that were.. really misguided. someone was confused about the gender of one of my characters and i was trying to explain but they started throwing some really violent transphobic slurs (by accident ? like i don't think they realized but it made me so uncomfortable ubhjknl)
@sorrelma uuuugh, I'm sorry you had to go through that! I think some people still aren't really aware of trans issues, but it's hard to tell who just doesn't know they're being offensive or who thinks it's okay to talk like that, which completely changes how I would react to the situation (educate vs delete)
