Do I have to upload daily for people to read my comic?
I've seen that most of the popular comics on this site started off with daily updates or even more than just daily chapters.

No, but it can help.

The popular comics that started off uploading daily probably came to Tapastic after a few months of creating comics with many fans from another site and a backlog that allowed them to post daily to catch new readers up. Posting often will allow a greater chance that someone will see you, but you don't have to. I've posted weekly for about a year and my comic is still growing just fine.

Perhaps if you're starting out, post once a day and keep track of which day sees the most traffic. Make that your regular update day.

All my comics post once a week and they're doing fine.

I think update schedule should be dictated by content. If your comic is a joke strip without continuity, daily or something close to it is probably the best sort of schedule for a comic like that. People want little nibbles of content, often from a comic like this.

On the other hand, if your comic is pulling from graphic novels and manga, trying to tell a long format story, I believe that a weekly update with more than one page is a better idea. As a reader, I know I prefer to read multiple pages at once if I care about the story. Daily updates for an ongoing story tend to fatigue me and make me start putting reading the updated off because I know that very little is going to happen each day.

What do you suppose would be the average length of a page? If updates are weekly or less frequent, how many panels would they need to be?

My pages are 6 - 8 panels. I think most people fall into the 5-10 panel range for their pages. But honestly, the content again should dictate the form. Is this page an action sequence? That page might have more panels than one that's just establishing a scene.

I personally do 2 pages per update, once a week. It usually ends up being about 12 panels or so. The current update I'm finishing for Tuesday is 11 panels across two pages. Here's my comic if you want an example.

I'd honestly prefer to be uploading 3 pages a week, but I'm an animator and I've found 2 pages is the most I can do while still getting all my animation for the week done.

Since the Tapastic audience is pretty global from my experience, it's hard to say. So I just update midnight Pacific time.

Thanks so much! Right now I'm doing 7-9 panels per chapter once every 4 days or sooner if I get them done, and working on my art becomes very difficult because I'm investing a lot in this comic, the one in question is here
Could you give me tips on how often I should update? The themes are dark, but also fairly light hearted in parts
