omfg Outlaw Star is so awesome!! I'm so happy to have met another person whose seen it!! People always ask me what it's about and I have to descibe it as, think of something like Cowboy Bebop but more combat, alien cat-girls, and badass space fights.

Jungle Book: The Adventures of Mowgli

AHHHH the Mowgli anime!! I loved that so much as a kid I watched it all the time when I could (my TV couldn't get it so I watched it EVERY TIME I went to my cousins. I was REALLY young then though but loved it so much, I can't believe I didn't think of that one for my list. I'm hoping they do a DVD release or something cause I would love to watch that one again

I really loved this anime, I only watched the first season, but i loved the comedy, magic, well of course Orphen himself ;') I fell in love with each character and got seriously invested in their dilemmas.

Yo!!! Yes! Orphen is awesome! I actually use Krylancelo as my name when I play games like RPGs since it's almost never taken. They had the first season on Netflix a couple of years ago but they didn't have Revenge, which I still haven't seen lol. I need to get back on this one!

Blue Seed! I used to watch episodes whenever they were on but never in order and never finished it, I should watch that one, too haha. And that Jungle Book anime was on really early in the morning back in the day, I would only catch it when I woke up like at 7am on a Saturday

Monster is an interesting series. People seem to love it or get bored and give up.
Spoiler warning! I made my own version of a certain children's storybook shown later in the series.

One I haven't seen on this list is Black Magic M66 (1987) a seriously dated but fun action movie about escaped robots on a rampage.

Or, for something even weirder, how about Roujin Z - about a mechanical hospital bed that goes on a rampage.

I LOVE Monster! I read it first, finished the whole manga series in 3 days, went out and bought all the volumes, and then watched a few episodes on TV. I really wish they'd come out with a complete dvd/blu-ray set though.

I'm feeling so nostalgic looking at these omg most of you guys already listed my top favorites. ( Ranma 1/2, Slayers, Big O, Outlaw Star )

Here, I'll name two runners ups in case if they sound mainstream: Hellsing ( COOL VAMPS BLOOD EVERYWHERE ACTION SCENES RLLY NEATO GUNS A BLAZIN WOWEE ) and Tenchi Muyo/Universe ( Omg the harem that most kids had seen in the 90's--- THESE TWO SEASONS WERE SOILD )

Like space? Like comedy and cute character designs? Well Irresponsible captain Tylor is for you! Basically, you journey around space with this happy-go-lucky idiot. I think the anime came out in 1993 if i am not mistaken. BTW THE ALIEN PRINCESS IS HOT.

Now this one is really, really, really good. This here is called Soul hunter aka houshin engi
It has a huge cast of characters, a really good backstory and history of china-- and well-- the namesake I had when I first entered the internet! There is this villianness named Dakki and she is the bees knees. THE THEME SONG IS REALLY GOOD.

Now if you guys like shojo-- but well done shojo that captivates emotions quite nicely and it just feels natural-- you should check out Kare Kano aka His and Her Circumstances. I RECOMMEND THIS IF YOU LIKE JELLYFISH PRINCESS!!!!

Oh yeah!, Soul Hunter is super good, how could I forget it?, Dakki was my love XD. I've been meaning to watch Kare kano! (mostly coz it was directed by Hideaki Anno), everybody says it's darn good. On a side note, also I should read some manga by Akiko Higashimura (jellyfish princess), she's so pretty and has an awesome style, sorry not sorry.

@Chuu SOUL HUNTER!!! I completely forgot about that anime! I never saw it in order or understood the plot when I was a little kid. Another one to add to the list!

@Chuu I still listen to the opening and Ending for Houshin Engi once and a while. Raishinshi was my favourite character haha! I was thinking of adding that one but decided against it because I didn't' care for the ending.

Omg right?? It's so gosh darn good!! There's a channel on Youtube that has the episodes, they pitched the voices to they sound a little higher pitched, but it's all that's available from what I've seen around : ( I would love to buy it too! The backgrounds which look like they were hand painted, still hold up! And for the time it came out, very early 90s, the animation isn't half bad, considering cartoons at that time had really low budget animation.

NAAAH Blue Seed's opening was actually the first song in Japanese that had me like "WHAT. IS. THIS?!?! I must learn these lyrics!!" lmao, I still know them today! Shall we reminisce?

Let's get proper vintage, yo, Cyber City OEDO 808! This is actually something I found digging through PC Engine game soundtracks one night. My brother looked it up and found out it's a very stylish but very poorly dubbed anime (they took ridiculous liberties "translating" these lines -- check out the youtube link, WARNING!! which has pretty hardcore language, oh my god).

Giant Robo: The Day the Earth stood still.

I picked up a Dutch DVD of this in a bargain bin at Schiphol airport. I remembered that Joe Mad was inspired by GR when he designed Callibretto for Battle Chasers (one of my favourite comics), so it was a curiosity purchase, but man, it was amazing! I've never seen an english Dub, so I'm not sure exactly what's even going on in it, but the amimation, designs, art style and action are so on point that it's incredibly enjoyable nonetheless.
I've no idea where you can watch it, but if you find a dub anywhere, please let me know!

I'm not sure if OVAs fall under the category as well, but I'd like to put out one of my faves which is the 1993 adaptation of Black Jack. Now this isn't in your typical Tezuka style either, it's more mature-ish but it still follows the plot and takes inspiration from some of the manga chapters for each episode (12 total+ a movie).

For those who don't know, Black Jack is an "unlicensed" surgeon but he's done a lot of miraculous surgeries which makes him a legend in the medical field. He pretty much goes all out to help their patients out as well.

The animation is just so GOOD. I like to rewatch it annually. x)) The other anime adaptions of Black Jack are very nice as well, but those were made after 2000.

Also another one of my faves is Shadow Skill: Eigi. it has one of my fave openings and my god the fighting scenes are just awesome + BEST GIRL MC

Shadow Skill is about these fighters who fight for the title "Sevaar" which is pretty much 'the strongest warrior in the land'. Focuses on a warrior name Elle Ragu (nicknamed Shadow Skill) and her brother Gau. If you're gonna check this out I highly suggest watching this series first cause it's the best amongst the ovas.
