Awhile back, I did an interview with the creator of Tapastic comic, Gangster Mama
I got some positive feedback from it so I decided to reach out to several different tapastic authors with comics that I follow. In the past few days, I've gotten feedback from some of the authors whom I had decided to interview and felt that it was time I made another thread with a different Tapastic author. Once a week on Friday's I will post my interview with whichever tapastic author. I feel that by reaching out to them and publishing the results here on the forums, it brings the community closer together for I feel we could all use some inspiration from comic authors with skill levels similar to our own personal skill level. If you're a budding author, but don't know where to start, I feel that reading one of these interviews I conduct might give you the push you need to go out there and publish whatever type of comic you want to show the internet.
Anyway, this week, I'm posting my interview with HN Lee, the creator of SUNDAZE, a beautifully colored ongoing slice of life comic focusing on two girls, one from the land and the other whom hails from the sea.
Q: 1. How's real life going for you atm?
A: 1. Right now I'm actually at my busiest. Aside from a comic creator, I'm also a fashion student and I have two fashion shows next week so I'm sewing like crazy but no matter how busy I am I'm still making sure the new pages get uploaded in time.
Q: 2. What got you into drawing?
A: 2. A lot of things contributed to my artistic nature but I the earliest influence I can remember is Pappy Drewitt. I loved his show, I think it was what really ignited my love for drawing.
Q: 2.5 Who or what are your artistic influences?
A: 2.5 In first grade I read a comic book called W.I.T.C.H. which was illustrated by Alessandro Barbucci. I remember being so obsessed with the comic that I tried to recreate the entire comic on bond paper. By then his style was pretty much ingrained in my brain and my style just sort of evolved from there.
Q: 3. How did you discover Tapastic?
A: 3. Tumblr. I'm always on tumblr I noticed a lot of artists started making comics there and I made a big decision revive my childhood dream and start making a comic of my own.
Q: 4. Where did the idea for Sundaze come from?
A:4. I'm gonna try to answer without spoiling. From the start, I knew I wanted to write a romance story. I already had the characters in my head but felt that I was still lacking that conclusive detail that would make my comic unique. I go to the beach quite often and one day while looking at the sunset I tried to imagine what if my characters lived on the beach and from then on everything fell perfectly into place.
Q: 5. What do you like to do when not making new pages of Sundaze?
A: 5. I'm most probably playing on my 3ds but recently I find myself I'm either watching youtubers or ANTM22.
Q: 6. Future plans for Tapastic?
A: 6. I have many plans in store. I really like this site and posting comics here and if it's possible I'd love to make comics full time. There are about three more stories that I'm thinking of making and one is actually already in the works. Sundaze is my first priority though so I'll start publishing them when Sundaze was really established itself.
Q: 7. Favorite tapastic webcomics?
A: 7. SPACE DEER! I could read it over and over and never get bored. Another comic I've been interested in lately is Hot Chocolate and Other Potions. It's still relatively new but looks promising.
