The new design is very similar to Webtoon.

Every time there is an update with the interface, it's hard to adjust at first. However, this new design does give me some worries.
Let's start first with what I like:

  • For the novel, there is an option to change text font as well as spacing. (I don't remember there is this feature before)

  • A series overview page for description and episode list. Before, the description is placed on the sidebar.

  • A busy front page.

  • The dashboard button.

What I don't like:

  • The new scrolling format for both comic and novel discovery page. As people already mentioned, new series would get buried down at the bottom and there is no way people are going to scroll that far.

  • No banner. Many series already have a banner. I think it's better if they can try to make it work rather than discard it. I also think that they should have a poll or something before making such a decision.

  • The disappearing and appearing nav bar.

  • Subscribe button hidden in the nav bar. They could have put it right next to the font changing button or the like button.

I can see that they have a reason for this new design. However, the bad points seem to outweigh the good. I do hope that the developer will listen and improves the interface.

Thank you, because I seriously hate this new layout. My literal brand new banner and donate button got eaten, and I updated them YESTERDAY. It's hard to tell whose comic you are on now.
I really liked the larger left hand side bar with the comic episodes, too. Everything feels empty and brandless. I miss the infinite scrolling, too.
So much less visually appealing. Perhaps a toggle switch for new layout/old layout?
Also please consider a way to customize what comics are recommended and show up on the front page, I am sick to death of seeing romance comics that I am uninterested in.

Next Inksgiving is going to be a massacre, huh

I might just make it a Promote-My-Commissions/Kofi-Weekend instead.

I thought I was the only one tired of them. All drawn in the same style too.

me, imma make an inksgiving ad and then say "dont actually give me ink, just support me directly :/... cut out the middle man..."

Not sure if anyone said it yet, but italics are gone. Like...the words are just gone.

novel italics are gone from published chapters? This a glitch? Pls tell me it's a glitch

my favourite bug of the update is that they mirrored webtoon's "author" tag, but instead, everyone in my comments section is listed as a creator, i love my team of creators

Ugh that pissed me off. How are people supposed to know who made the comic they're reading? They rolled this out to fast without telling anybody.

@Yoon I know you and your team are discussing this but please go back to the old format at least until the new format is completely ready and you inform creators beforehand.

think all has been said i the topic, i just hope the lords and masters listen to what us the creators are saying , words to effect of the new layout sucks! progress is not always a good thing and given the choice i too would go back to the old layout.

... holy moly.

okay. i feel like there's a lot of helpful feedback on this thread, and then there's this.

the website is ugly, and buggy, but telling a company they betrayed you personally (and other really uncalled for things in the thread by others) isn't how you get things fixed.

and for those surprised about the update: they also did mention they were doing it! it's in the same email as the update on covers.

anyway, i think continuing to report bugs now that yoon is listening is a good idea. just... don't be outright mean?

I mean if they feel betrayed they feel betrayed- feelings are feelings. Who is the lowest pit of hell saved For again?

But in all seriousness I agree that we should continue reporting bugs- I also agree that maybe instead of working with a broken site we can go back to the old one.

yes just revert but i still might be ending my comics run on here...

Yea they "mentioned" it. That short little blurb at the top of the email wasn't enough to prepare people for this. It should've been more informative saying when and what was going to be changed. Anyone who wasn't paying attention, me, would've missed that and assumed the point of the email was just about the cover thing!

can i mention i never even got the email for the covers and vaguely this clusterfuck of an update?

Actually I’m not done yet- I DONT think tapas sould be using it’s community as BETA testers for fuck sake- the amount of problems and the amount of issues I’m hearing from >readers< the people this is supposed to be an improvement for- this is not gucci

I would not go as far as @Cavechan does, but I think the feeling of betrayal is entirely justified. I feel betrayed too. I sincerely believed something would be done to promote the website after the app censorship issue. Nothing was done. Ok. I'm not happy, but whatever. But now getting an update that is clearly ignoring website user needs (at best! Maybe even made to discourage them and encourage them to read on app), yes, I feel betrayed.
I really believed in Tapas, because the communication with creators is way better than the competition.
But at this point, I'm not on Tapas because I love Tapas, but because they are the less bad.

Instead of asking for Tapas Ink, get Ko-Fi gold and change coffee to Ink - genius!

But yeah guys, as much as it's horrible, it's poorly implemented, this WILL fuck us over views wise - it's best to remain civil. Community management and especially the people actually making these changes will not listen and will not care if you start acting violent. Be concise and clear that they've screwed up this, that, that other thing, and so much more, to the point they'd be in the wrong to say nothing is happening. But use really aggressive wording and it just sounds emotional and unreasonable(even if it's completely reasonable).

Also for the love of god let's please not attack each other

this right here, i will admit i been getting less and less satisfied with every new update but this one was the straw that broke the camel's back

That blurb totally made it sound as if the site changes and the thumbnail change would be happening simultaneously, mid-March. Why WOULDN'T those changes happen together? And why not warn us we'd be losing all our custom banners?

I and I'm sure many others already prepared new icons, sure would have been nice to know that said icon would be slapped on a plain color banner I have no control over. How is the banner color even chosen? Can it be gamed by changing the color scheme of the icon?

I tots agree with you but considering half the people are waking up to this without their morning cup of coffee/Pepsi expecting 100% nice guy is hoping for a lot.

go look at Webtoon, they have the same set up where the colour is indicated by genre and no joke, Tapas is using the same colours... only different is that the fantasy tab is a more muted purple and not this god awful adioactive purple slime looking colour

THIS IS CRITICAL!
Contents are missing!
@Yoon sorry for tagging. But this must be a priority

i think a better way to deal with it is just to revert the site back...

We can't get a larger character count for novels, but we get this...?

Don’t make me laugh. Cut me open, and a little Tapamon would jump out. The grass isn’t greener elsewhere. Ironically, a lot of the issues with the new UI are issues I have with other unnamed platforms that I decided to move away from, but also Tapas’ novels team and literally wonderful and I couldn’t imagine going elsewhere with my work right now. I’d rather work with them to see changes made that benefit novelists than flounce off and cut off my nose to spite my face.

Boosting this. I need accessibility for my novels. But also, even though I have Premium works that benefit, I like to see upcoming authors having their hard work rewarded and seeing their work at least take some form of precedence. I don’t feel like Tapas should become a site where novels are second class citizens.

Also, for users who are NOT premium, the hiding of Patreon links/ad banners/removal of banners at the top etc. Is insult to injury. When a change hits people’s bank balances - they will move on.
