Webtoon 2020 contest : can you use an already existing OC

Hi dear creators !

Well, everything’s in the title !
There’s only one month left before the Short Story contest starts and I’m trying to take advance (might as well take advantage of the quarantine) and I was wondering something :

From what I read in the rules notice on webtoon, you can’t use an already posted story for the contest, but what about characters ?

Is some sort of « spin off » from your already existing comic working ?

Hi! I am pretty sure you actually can use an already posted story, you just create a new series after April 30 starts and post it there, so I'm pretty sure pre-existing characters are fine as well. Some staff (?) explain it in a Webtoon contest youtube video.

Here is some information on their notice page:

7. Can I submit a series that has been previously published?
Yes, but for this contest, we highly encourage new original content that has never been published. If you would like to submit a series that was previously published online.
- It must have been self-published.
- You must fully own the series and have exclusive and direct control over it.
- It must not have been published by a publisher.
- It must not have been printed offline for circulation including self-published stories.

You didn't give it a good read though:
Any comic episode that was previously published or made public may be submitted provided that there are no third-party agreements or engagements that prohibit its publication through WEBTOON or this Contest.

So you can publish it again and they definitely won't care about characters, if they are yours

Well this is great ! This way I can think of a way to use my characters and do some sort of spin off from my current series !

Looks like I didn’t read it right! Sorry about that! And thank you for reminding me the right rules ! These are great news ! Definitely gonna use my ocs then!
