But you are missing my point about webtoon straight up deleting episodes of authors who didn't break the rules prior to the guideline change, practically within just a few days of the rule changes being announced, without said authors having applied to the ad program because the program was not yet available.
The rule changes were made because of Google, yes. But no, it's not just about creators willingly censoring their content to get money out of webtoon. We have to censor our content and we still get no monetization. Only reason many of us put up with it still is to fish subs that we can then move to places where their readership actually supports us. And yes, in the process of us doing that, you will see a lot of fans being upset about the rule change.
Which is a good thing. Consumers knowing how their favorite creators are being treated is a good thing and we should not be ignored or hushed. I, line many other creators, will continue to be honest and outspoken about the changes in the industry so that customers know which businesses they want to support with their usage and which they don't. By extension, this is the one and only way we can send a message to bigger companies like google. Either they evolve along with society as these taboos are broken down, or they lose business. Their choice, just how business works.
But no, the guidelines don't exclusively target BL. They target all mature, even slightly sexual content which is just as bad because it is still an active silencing of people's sexual and romantic artistic expressions; expressions that for the most part are healthy and completely natural.
I am glad to see audiences not putting up with that shit anymore.
