Tbh i think this is a great thing. Until now, webcomic readers have been able to run off to webtoon for their featured series when they want professional quality comics but don't want to pay. Obviously, noone paying professionals to do their job isn't sustainable long term and so far webtoons have only been able to handle it due to the huge budget of their parent company.
Webtoons aligning with a more reasonable monetization method will make monetization easier for webcomic creators across all platforms (as consumers will have to accept the idea of paying for their entertainment). Whether they be tapas premium, contracted with some other webcomic platform, or independent creators. It also makes me believe more in their potential to actually stay around and not become the next Inkblazers.
