I feel sad for everyone. I get the program for free at work. But, if I could I'd pay for everyone.

They've actually been already contacting people who use older programs via e-mails. A few industry artists I follow and even a few of my artist friends have been getting these warning e-mails.

Some people don't want to upgrade because they removed features that they use in the new version, so they need the old version.

Some people have not updated because the newer version of the program doesn't run in their windows OS, so they very literally can't update.

Another fun thing to note is a good amount of these people need these programs for school or work and would rather be using other programs like CSP, but work or school will not allow them.

Sounds like it has something to do with the old subscriptions. Glad my version of Photoshop is older than the Creative Cloud, then.

Seriously though, that's pretty ridiculous. Like other people have mentioned, some people legitimately can't upgrade due to hardware constraints and whatnot.

They can find out via software updates that Adobe does on your computer. So when you get that notification for a windows or adobe update, it can tell what program you have. I used CS6 for years with windows updates turned off until one day adobe updated and was able to tell I had an older version. Then I recieved a pop up every ten minutes anytime the program was open. The pop up slowly escalated from "hey, get the new photoshop!" to "we will corrupt all your PSD files if you do not uninstall this program". So I got rid of it lol.

Photoshop was never very good for comics anyway.

I just feel bad for all the people who have gotten used to specific versions of it and who are now harrassed to "upgrade" to a version that doesn't even have what they need. Ridiculous.

I'm no tech head but I was told that images have imbedded data that traces software sources.

this sounds like something that could be coded out of it fairly easily... or what if you save the file, open it in clip studio, and then save it as a new file? wiped clean, i imagine.

anyway, just one piece of evidence on a pile that shows that adobe is a terrible example of late capitalist greed

Yeah, like I said, I'm no tech head but the way it was explained to me was that it's like a log of everything done to an image. It records how it originates, then any software used to alter or enhance. So like in your example, running it through CSP would just add CSP to the imbedded data, not remove Photoshop.

It came up in a conversation about dumb stuff in police movies and such. That they don't need photographic experts to examine physical copies of photos since the info is in the imbedded files.

I just find it amazing that imbedded data inside images is even a thing.
