True, and yes when it really matters they do show damage but it's usually story-driven and not an artistic choice. I think now that RT's budget is bigger they could afford to scruff up the characters a bit more in scenes.
Not problematic, just annoying: When the characters in a story are fighting and their clothing never gets dirty or damaged, especially if it's an anime/manga/show where action is the main emphasis coughrwbycough Also when during fights characters can jump into the air like 30 feet with no explan…
I suggest just opening up an actual map to a city and marking where all the major landmarks are to see how a city is structured, then go from there. Also for good 3D reference I suggest video games! If you pick a game with a city (like for example Grand Theft Auto since it always has a city theme)…
Well i was responding to when you said this part
Hi! I recently attended a convention and had the opportunity to speak with the head of Canvas at Webtoon. She explained to me the process of which comics are chosen to get showcased on the main canvas page recommended titles section and on the app's front page where it has Staff Picks, Rising Star…
Just a heads up that I am intrigued and will be sending you an email possibly!
I came back to this thread to see what this topic had boiled down too xD, but this caught my attention because I remember the controversy. Those two actresses did not deserve that harassment and it's pretty awful what people say on the internet. The actresses themselves are not at fault for the wa…
Hmmm I'm trying to think of character design tropes in anime that I always find amusing but not necessarily bad. Like for Shonen anime the main character usually has bright colored hair that's spikey, and his foil rival has dark hair (usually black) that lays more flat because he's emo and cool. A…
Don't forget Universal Studios and Dreamworks. They haven't snatched them up yet!
Disney doesn't just own entertainment media, they own real estate, amusement parks, news channels etc. It's pretty insane how massive they are. I think any company getting this big is bad, no matter what the initial intent was. I think a lot of people don't understand the power with which Disney has…
i fixed the type-o hahahaha but I would totally watch Married Witch Children lol
hahaha I had to xD i couldn't wait on this opportunity I don't like sitcoms so I couldn't tell ya which episodes to watch. But from what I've seen of it, it has some good moments. If you like "Married With Children", then you'd probably like this show too
the best Ray out there
[image] I thought everyone loved him...
is this a meme now? lol
Later on in the thread I expound on that a bit more because since Superman was written in the 1930's and there have been hundreds of iterations of him all from different writers, one can't really say that as whole, Superman is a Marty Stu. Depends on which version they are referring to.
I could see that. I'm on the side that Kylo could beat her even with his injuries, but there's no convincing them otherwise. In truth, I think the new movies aren't about Rey at all. Ironically, I think they're Kylo's arc, and maybe that's why Rey seems so weak to me, because they've done really w…
Look, SW isn't perfect. It's got issues. It's a glorified space drama. The fandom of SW has always been predominantly men. Disney is changing that without understanding that the target demographic for star wars was for whoever wanted to like SW, regardless of sex or whatever. SW was already for ever…
There's some things she breezed through, or rather could do without any explanation as to how. As for Kylo being injured, FINE. I still disagree (having re-watched that scene). But I won't beat a dead horse on this point.
...what???? Go re-watch that scene.
Whoops, type-o. Sue me. Point still stands. You know what i meant.
What? No. The character IS the writing. Why do you make it sound like she's a real person? Honestly, Rey is literally just a female Luke but him at the end of his training, with no challenges or experience to backup how she got to be so strong. She's like if you were to start a new game but inpu…
That's my biggest issue with Rey's backstory or origin is the very fact that it turns out she isn't special at all - she's not from a Jedi bloodline or royalty - she's just a desert dweller with hardly any past, yet she can use the force and use it way too well for someone who just got thrown into…
Fair. But isn't the purpose of any debate to prove one's side as valid? Here's a list of a few beloved female leads or characters who aren't Mary Sue's, or rather just haven't received the shit-talk that Rey has gotten. It can be done. Sarah Connor - Terminator Ripley from Alien Wonder Wom…
Fine, if you say most of the critiques you've seen of her were sexist, I can't really deny your claim just like you can't deny mine or we'd be here all day. My experience has been the opposite. I'm a woman and think Rey is a bad character. That is all! Thanks for having this discussion with me…
That's because you can't think of an genuine points to refute my claims. Her lack of character progression is not alleged. I just proved it in my longest response. Han Solo and Luke are not put on pedestals. They are often used in comparsion to Rey because they are also main characters lol. L…
Batman is not a Marty Stu. He's earned everything he has, he's dealt with loss (his parents, Robin a few times in the comics, and lovers) and is genuinely a selfless person. He's not Batman for himself, he's Batman for the people of Gotham. He fights bad FOR good people, and doesn't want the credit …
I’m going to start this by saying the fact that Rey is a woman has NOTHING to do with the critique of her CHARACTER. At least in my critique. If Rey were a man and nothing about his story arc or personality changed, I would still dislike him as a character. The lead character of an adventure, fant…
But that was my point! You seem to think all criticism of Rey stems from sexism and I am telling you it doesn't. They are criticizing her character and not her gender. Why can you not believe that? As a writer, storyteller, artist, whatever, I implore you to see reason behind the avid critique of …
I disagree that calling Rey a Mary Sue is sexist or has anything to do with misogynists. I think the term misogyny has been thrown around a little too much in recent years as a way to discredit any form of critique from men (particularly white men) and that's just wrong. Not to say there aren't any …
