Regarding your thoughts on the spoilers you mentioned
Endeavor, am I right? I've seen a lot of people outright stop watching or reading it once they saw the chance of a redemption arc. Trying to redeem a person who abused their own family and had children for selfish gain is a hell of an uphill battle. Especially if it starts to make the character in question look like their previous actions were almost justified at the time. I think Horikoshi has done a magnificent job in handling it as best as he could. I'll try to briefly recap the events after without spoiling too much of Season 5.
Endeavor tries face his abusive past by trying to bond with his family again, but that's not such an easy task (obviously). Part of it is also done by trying become a legitimate hero focused on being a symbol of power, rather than a second-best hero. Both of these tasks kinda feed off of each other. There's struggle on both ends at times, and even when things start to feel somewhat resolved.. it's sorta left on this note of "we'll try to reconnect" rather than "you're completely forgiven".
I dunno if things keep developing past that. I haven't read that much further in the manga. But I do think it's a commendable attempt at changing our view of this character. I don't think the audience is meant to come out of thinking he's heroic in that regard either. I personally feel an amount of respect towards who he's trying to be now, and I think that's what Horikoshi was aiming for with general audiences.
It's up to you whether he's redeemed enough or not.
